Montreal and Detroit most certainly take that. Don't think Canadien fans would care about the overpay that much.

Sabres have power and Dahlin they don’t need Karlsson.

I think that would be an insanely unnecessary risk for Buffalo. Not sure Karlsson would waive to go there either.

I don't see the Sharks moving out of their draft position for any reason, unless they manage to move up. If they were going to move down, it would cost multiple 1sts.

A contract like the one Karlsson has means purely from a hockey perspective, the Sharks are going to get ripped off. The value in moving him unfortunately has nothing to do with the game or their rebuild. He's gunna get dealt for whoever can save ownership the most $ during this phase of the rebuild.

not saying that the return won't be less than people generally think, but based on what came from sharks org during trade deadline this is extreme

Sharks aren’t moving down unless its a significant overpay.

This is a nasty contract that maybe 2 teams can afford long term. That generally doesnt bode well for value. At this point, he's just taking up unnecessary space in the operating budget during a time where the Sharks really dont need that.

Grier has said that while a trade is best for both and its been reported they are both looking, but he understands he has a Norris caliber defenseman and won't let him go for an offer that doesn't match his value.

edit* EK65 is also the only player that will sell tickets for the sharks, so we don't need him but it won't hurt to keep him

True, but there's no guarantee he maintains the level of play that would sell tickets. At his age, a drop off is sort of expected no? I think over the next year or two theyre going to add young talent that will keep hardcore fans interested.

Certainly, I dont think Karlsson at his age brings enough ppl to the arena to justify continuing to pay out that contract.

I mean at his age he put up 101 pt regular season, which will put people in seats. He will also regress and the sharks dont have anyone to score goals anymore, which is why it makes sense to trade him, and why the return will not reflect a 100pt defenseman, but sharks won't let him go for peanuts, mike Grier has been clear about that and its why a trade didn't happen during the season

I would expect returning assets like Chychrun got but also with some bad shorter contracts going back.
