Description
if Pesce cant get a deal done in carolina the oilers should be all over this and have basically a 1 year rental who knows how to play in his own zone which the oilers desperately need. Canes are big on advanced analytics and broberg had very good advanced stats last year and hes a cheap and good potential option on a cap crunched team.

if the jets are rebuilding they might as well start now with nobody resigning. ehlers would be a perfect winger for mcdavid and with how inconsistent the top 6 wingers were in the playoffs ehlers brings stability and this team to a next level. i think the return is great for the jets basically 3 first round picks (bourgault) and yamo could be half retained at the TDL and shipped for a 3rd maybe 2nd pick as well depending.

connor brown signs a cheap contract after his injury to reunite with mcdavid. the contract can look something like if he plays 70+ games he gets a big bonus in the millions range on top of his 1 million he signs for.

i think nows the time especially with all these great trading targets to clear out the draft picks and build a juggernaut. this team is in win now mode and these 2 moves puts us over the top. pesce is a great fit with nurse and ehlers completes arguably one of the greatest top 6s of all time if u play nuge on the wing. even if goaltending is a little below average come playoff time i think the skaters can carry this team to a cup similar to 2022 Avs

      Why does CAR consider this?

What does Broberg do for them?

they consider it if they cant get a deal done with pesce. lots of insiders say if a deal cant get done expect pesce to be gone because of their cap space issues. at least they get a young high potential replacement for pesce whos on a entry level deal and a pick

"because of their cap space issues" is where that comment went erroneous. I don't know who these 'insiders' are but that is not an accurate characterization of the situation. I won't go into it but it's what prompts trades like this and why they won't happen.

CAR wants to contend. How does this help them contend?

i mean you guys need to resign half your team. a starting goalie is anywhere between 4-6 million. 2 dman at 2 millionish each. a top 6 forward 6-8 million. then probably 3-4 bottom 6 guys at around 1.5 million each. your left with 2-6 million left yes u can keep pesce but then what about next year when tervainen aho necas martinook skjei all need contarcts and even worse 2 years later when slavin needs one. i just think ur not holding pesce on long term with all the contracts coming up so u might as well get something for him now. i mean you guys havent had much playoff success either so maybe switch something up.

they also have to sign some big names next year like aho teravinen necas skjei and slavin in 2 years. i mean yeah u can keep him for one more year but why not try and get something for him now when its almost impossible you keep him after resigning those guys.

you guys could probably get a first as well honestly along with broberg. broberg looked really promising last season and if given the chance i think he could really thrive especially on analytics based team. its one of those players whose gonna resign for a cheap bridge deal and give u some relief cap wise in the next 2 years when you have star players to resign

So let me get this straight. The Ducks "payment" for retaining 1.5M for two years is giving the Oilers an additional 3.25M in cap space again for two years. Nah, I don't think we're doing that for a division rival.

I doubt CHI does that for a 3rd. But you never know.

What comes around goes around. When Edmonton was busy drafting McDavid and Draisital the Ducks were in a run of winning the division five years straight. Now it's the Ducks turn to draft high.

If you want to flash back a bit further to when both teams were good we can. I'll thank Edmonton all day long for trading us Pronger as we would have never won the cup in 2007 without him. He didn't have the same magic for the Oilers in '06. Seriously, how do you trade Chris Pronger to your DIVISION RIVAL? Edmonton didn't make the playoffs for ten years after that deal.
