Obviously the Hawks would accept, but it won't require that much. The only way Carter waives is if they agree the buyout occurs to which then its only 1 year $2.5M I believe since it's a 35+ contract.

Jarry isn't taking that type of contract and I don't think Klingberg is the type of D we need. We need some guys that defend hard.

IMO, if we wanted to add another hard nosed defenseman, we could basically exchange Smith for Gudas, however I do think a Klingberg type of guy would go a long way for more consistent results on the power play. (Similar to when we had Schultz and Daley on the team as well)

That’s a fair point. Cheap depth is never a bad thing though, however I totally get it with Vancouvers limited cap space.

I would do pretty much anything to get rid of Carter. (Assuming he would accept) 🤣

In an ideal world, LTIR would probably be best case scenario.

Edit: I’m not 100% sure that would even get us off the books with all of his clauses?

I checked the buy out, it's actually his full cap hit of 3,125,000 in year 1 and 0 in year 2.

The Klingberg contract is very very bad imo. I wouldn't waste a first to dump Carter - and honestly he's going to block it anyways. The rest looks good to me though

The Klingberg deal is admittedly a boom or bust type of deal. I feel like he’s going to want in the 5ish range, and I think it would benefit the Pens to have another puck mover, similar to when we had Daley/Schultz. (Klingberg is risky for obvious reasons though)

Regarding Carter, I 100% agree, was kind of wishful thinking. With any sort of luck, we could LTIR him.

I mean I kind of get what you're saying - but to me that's just a giant waste in my opinion to spend 5.25mil with term on a 3rd pairing dman. Especially with the way Klingberg has been playing. Even if he plays well it still seems like a waste. I'm not sure I can ever get on board with spending that much on a guy you know is going to be on the 3rd pair. It's one thing if you sign him to play 1st or 2nd pair but a young guy overtakes him. I'd rather just throw out Smith if all you want is a puck mover. We know he can do that.

As far as Carter, yeah - I never want to wish ill on someone but maybe some Yinzer will take one for the team and give Carter a very minor, non life threatening, but career ending, injury lol
