Carolina what would it take to get Pesce? Ideally with garland involved in the deal but not 100% necessary.

Nah. Too old for our core, not worth giving up high end picks. Just wait until free agency if we really want, or just not go for him at all

Unless the Hurricanes are absolutely unreasonable... Brett Pesce will be a Hurricane for life... just like Jaccob Slavin

I think Canucks plan on contending right away. Pesce + O'Reilly + a LHD (Soucy here) fills out major holes and IMO makes us a legit contender over the next 3 years.

Just trying to gauge what the price for Pesce would be. I'd say the market was set with Hronek, Chychrun, Provorov trades at something around a 1st + 2nd. Now Pesce is older than those guys but still a very good dman so not sure exactly what this will look like.

I never understand why folks think it is wise to trade a top 15 pick for a rental.

Okay sure but it's clear they will consider trading him if they can't get to an agreement so what's the cost for van?

Probably either your 11OA or a few very good prospects or Hronek... Pesce is a very good second pairing defenseman

He is 29 this coming season. Do we really want a Tyler Myers contract v2? Its pretty clear we are targeting 26 and under

I mean if it's a 3-4 year contract then I think you can avoid it. He's a very good defenseman analytically and will help your defense immensely

His offensive numbers are good, but his defensive analytics are nowhere near as good as they were 2+ years ago. Not worth mortgaging the future for a guy who will be 29 this season

They're not nearly as good as they were but still pretty solid for what he is, but I agree that it isn't worth mortgaging the future for a guy who will be 29. I mean the Athletic's model suggests that's he still an upper-crust defensive defenseman

Hronek is 100% of the table. He's younger and arguably better. But 11OA or preferably next year's 1st could be on the table.

Very different player type than Myers. He's a shutdown d and would be deployed as such. I'm not concerned about the aging much because Canucks are looking to win during the Hughes demko contracts which is over the next 3-4 years.

The 11OA is okay... We could probably draft somebody like Colby Barlow who could make an immediate impact ala Seth Jarvis

VAN shouldn’t be sending out anymore 1st rounders IMO; work some trades with roster players and scout the UFA market.

The only potential fit I see for giving up a 1st+ would maybe be an offer sheet to Byram. 5 x $6.4m would give up VAN’s 2024 1st and 3rd as compensation, and I’d hope their 1st next year wouldn’t be a lottery pick. COL may find a way to match it anyway.

I'm pretty sure Colorado would happily match that. I don't think Canucks should move this year's first at 11OA but I've got no issue with them moving next year's first. I think with a few pieces they are a contender in the west and they need to capitalize on demko and Hughes current contracts. Particularly Hughes.

No, it's not obvious. He's an upcoming UFA who has the choice of signing with any team he wants.

Ya and Canucks aren't going to be acquiring him as a rental so they would obviously be extending him. Try using more than one brain cell next time.

Try using a one brain cell, when instead of making a bad trade.

It is obvious. Like somehow someone always turns up confused as to why you'd trade a high pick for an expiring contract. Like come on dude. Clearly teams talk about an extension with the agent before they make the trade. It goes without saying.

Why did the isles give up 3 assets for 3 months of Horvat when they weren't even sure they'd make the playoffs? You can figure out the answer I bet.
