Why not? Buffalo has plenty of young top six forwards like Thompson, Cozens, Quinn, Peterka, Krebs, Tuch, Skinner, and Olofsson. They could spare losing Mittelstadt and he only has one more year til RFA. But they desperately need a true starter and Ullmark would help them make the jump to being a real contender.

Just because we have a lot of talent, it doesn't mean we give it away at a discount.

How is the odds on Vezina winner a discounted return for an unproven 24 year old center with one solid season under his belt.

I guess the presumption is, having seen ullmark for a few years on the Sabres, he would most certainly regress to his statistical norm outside of good defensive system like Boston's. You add the fact that current Sabres team lives and dies off the rush, he'd probably get skewered.

It’s true that he would likely regress but it would be unfair to say he hasn’t improved since leaving Buffalo and the boosted numbers are just a result of a better defense. Even just between his first and second year in Boston he showed massive improvement, and that’s in front of essentially the same defense.

Because BUF and KA really, really like this certain "unproven" center, who put up 34 points in his past 41 games. That's the same amount as Eichel.

He's not unproven anymore, not in BUF's eyes. He can play wing and center. He can play 1C, 2C, 3C and LW on any of the top 3 lines. And he only has a $2.5 cap hit and then still an RFA. He's one of the best value non-ELC contracts in the league.

A Mitts <> Ullmark trade straight-up gives me pause.

Plus, Ullmark wanted out of BUF. So, why take him back? Don't get me wrong, I was and am a huge Ullmark fan. KA letting him leave was by far his biggest blunder, but you can't force someone to sign on the dotted line. Ullmark wanted to leave. He left. A trade back to BUF is doubtful, according to the magic 8-ball.

Right, but we can't ignore the contrast in defensive structures. The Sabres generate and give up way more odd man rushes than the bruins do. This isnt an area Ullmark excels at.

Its a moot point though. Ullmark isnt waiving to go back to the team that lowballed him before FA

All good points. As I bruins fan that’s just a trade I’d love to see. And I feel like Ullmark would be more likely to keep Buffalo off of his 15 team no trade list seeing how much they’ve improved the talent on their team and their team culture in general.

That's the thing a lot of people don't understand. BUF's system isn't goalie friendly. Maybe they change things up next year. They played a more defensively stout style at the end of the year, so maybe they incorporate that more.

But, people look at our Gs stats and think they suck. No, if you watched much of BUF, our goalies were hung out to dry. Most goalies would have roughly the same .900 sv% that our goalies had.

Unless BUF is getting a Helle or Saros, we just don't need a goalie. A UPL and Levi combo is just fine. Add a solid D-man or 2 instead of BUF's constant rotation of AHL D-men in Clague, Fitzgerald, Pilut and most of BUF's defensive woes are solved.

Basically, G isn't a huge need for BUF. Ullmark, however much he improved, is probably a .900-.905 goalie in BUF last year.

I think if I am a Sabres fan and I am eyeing up the Bruins for a trade. The one player I am targeting the most is Brandon Carlo. Sabres need a partner for Power and a RHD in their Top 4.

I'm in agreement with the other Sabres fans. Ullmark benefited from playing behind a talented vet team. No real reason to pay mittelstadt and an early second, honestly that seems like an overpayment. Carlo is a guy I would pay for, ullmark, somebody else can have.
