*this is just for fun, I know its unrealistic and can't happen*
The only way this makes sense, is if multiple 1st round picks are going the other way. Canucks are taking almost $6M+ of dead cap for 2 years + giving up a 2C, 1st line winger. At minimum, it will take two 1st rounders + one of McMichael or Lapierre.
I doubt Washington does this, as they also have to rebuild soon. And they can't afford to make a big move like this, without sacrificing a lot of futures. Although I'm sure Ovechkin won't mind Caps going all-in. At the same time, Canucks will also lose this trade, as they will have another bad contract on the books when they are trying to win, with no replacement for JT Miller. 30+ goals and 80+ points are hard to replace. They'd have to flip the Washington picks for immediate help, and find a creative and cheap way to off-load Oshie to Arizona, Anaheim or Chicago.
Maybe if a 3rd team retains 50% on Oshie (lets say Anaheim, and they get compensated with two 3rds, one from each team), this could work. It will give Vancouver a cheap winger, who they can always trade if things don't work out, as his cap hit won't be an anchor anymore. But I still don't see Caps giving up this many futures, with Ovi close to retiring
