Hutson will need time, another year in Boston, after a year in Laval
Kidney I wouldn't be surpise he ends up like Mysak
Roy will need a year or two in Laval before considering him a NHL regular
Same for Farrell
Mesar too, back in the OHL, after goes to Laval and we will see from there how he plays
Barlow have tunnel vision, I'm not that high on him
Danielson is an Owen Beck 2.0, so he wouldn't be a bad pick, just a little bit high
Willander would be a reach but how better is he than the likes of Dragicevic/Akey/Allen etc
Fair enough. I disagree with just about all of this. (Aside from the Habs prospects needing time, etc)
Barlow may not be a superstar but has all the traits to be a very good player non the less. He's the safe pick IMO but I don't think he's going to be a 4th line PK'er either. Guy has areas of his game he needs to work on just like Lane Hutson does. If vision is his problem, play him with a good center who has vision. His role is to forecheck and score goals which he is excellent at and doesn't require élite vision. If he had vision also, he'd be top 5 in the draft this year. Can't have everything be top end. No player does. Maybe Bedard I guess but even then he isn't great defensivly.
Nate Danielson is the one I think you are heavily down playing. Owen Beck has 3rd line center potential. Danielson has 1st/2nd line center potential. IMO. Not even close to comparable. If 2023 draft is the high end draft everyone says it is and last years draft was considerably less than this years, not sure how you can they are close. Danielson is rated anywhere from 10th to 20th in virtually every mock. Beck was late 1st round at best in last years draft, the weaker draft. Plus its not like he is breaking out in the OHL either. I like Beck as much as the next guy but I think Habs fans need to chill on Beck. He is not going to be star player. Just a very good role player.
Willander's game is wayyyyyy more rounded than every single one of those players you mentioned. Dragacevic is a forward disguised as a dman. Can't play D to save his life. All stats and no filler. Akey is a solid 2nd round pick choice, I would gladly take him but only in the 2nd round. Allen is as much of a coin toss as winning the lotto. Either hes going to make someone look smart or he is just as enigmatic as his season was and we'll all forget about him. Willander's game is sooo much better than all of those players and its not even close IMO.
As for the Habs prospects though, you are making my point. Habs need some sure things. We have so many prospects who are "maybe's". Assuming the Habs draft a forward stud with 5ov, Our top 6 is CC, Zuke, Dach, Slaf and 5ov. That leaves 1 spot for foreseeable future (Like 8 years probably) for any one of the entire systems forward prospects to fit in. Is Mesar, Farrell, etc going to be 3rd/4th liners for the Habs? Who will we take in the 31-37 ranges that will be so much ahead of those guys? All just gambles.
Defense is starting to be an issue also because we are over crowded and there are only so many spots available. Guhle, Hutson, Harris, Xhejax, Barron, Mailloux, Engstrom.... whose not playing if we add more late round D prospects that could compete for a spot?
Goaltending I'm convinced, you either draft a stud G like Askarov, Wallstedt, Cossa, etc or you take later round 3rd-7th round chances. Goalies are so hard to project. Frankly I wouldn't even bother. Draft stud FW and D first and then just trade for a stable goalie once your ready. They are so unpredictable that its such voodoo wasting a late 1st-early 2nd drafting one IMHO.
