Laf has some interesting appeal for Carolina in the same way that Kotkaniemi did two seasons ago. They're both players in their early 20s with somewhat tumultuous starts to their careers, but simultaneously, if both of them hit, they, along with Jarvis/Necas/Svechnikov, would extend the contention window by at least another decade even as very good players like Pesce/Skjei/Teravainen potentially leave and get larger contracts elsewhere.

$8.5MM for a guy that's never even had a 20-goal season? Wow.

far too much for a LAF O.S. The QO becomes so high that the canes would not have a chance at a reasonable extension.

I like the OP's train of thought.

KK's career high in goals was 11 before CAR gave him the 6M offer sheet, then got him locked in at a better value long term. Fans seem to be happy with the outcome so far.

Like KK's offer sheet, this one is only for 1 year, and could follow the same trajectory.

It is a gamble, but it seems to make sense. At least from an outsiders perspective.

I understand what you’re trying to do but it’s not worth it at that value for Laf. Maybe at 6M instead.

Also pass on Martinez. Need to use that cap space allocated to Martinez and Laf to make the team better this year, not look to the future as much.

Yeah and we all saw that KK isn’t that guy
