I don't think Seattle would agree to have Blake Wheeler.
Why can't Winnipeg buyout Blake Wheeler?

No, we're not trading Quinton Byfield for Pierre-Luc Dubois. The reporting here is that Blake refused that very ask (Byfield or Vilardi plus LA's 2024 first for Dubois).

I know it says ANY TEAM, but I think even with retention it might be optimistic to expect a 2nd Rounder for Wheeler at this point. (especially Seattle!). Buying him out would cost less against the cap this year, but I guess if WPG can get some kind of decent return for him by retaining 1/2 his salary, they should go for it.

We can, but it’s cheaper money wise to retain half.

Dw, I wouldn’t be surprised if chevy doesn’t answer their questions either. Welcome to how the Winnipeg jets fan base feels…

Tbh, I don’t know his value. Was kind of a blind throw in the dark. I also don’t think schmidt has major negative value, if any at all. Probably need a late 2nd or 3rd to dump him at most.

What is PHI looking for?

More a blindfolded dart throwing thing, if we can move him at half, great! Otherwise, we buy him out. Can do both under this scenario

All it would save is 1.375 million in actual total $$, but that should only concern Chipman! Capwise, if I'm Chevy, I don't want to retain anything more than 3 million if trading Wheeler for some sort of return. To buy him out is only 2.75 on the cap this year and next, neither of which should likely be a problem . . . especially if cap goes up considerably next season as forecasted.

I agree Schmidt is a solid player but the flyers aren’t looking to take him on unless u dump him because they are rebuilding I would say 1st, 2nd, Holtz, Schmidt would be a fair deal because it is a decent amount for Hart but also factors in dumping Schmidt who does make a good amount

I think the jets just take out schmidt then and move him elsewhere. How’s holtz, 2nd, 3rd

Yes, but the jets don’t need cap space next year. They can easily retain on wheeler and move on. No point in tying up cap next year when you might need it, vs now when you definitely don’t. All while saving real dollars, which does matter to a small market team like the jets.

I agree, the actual dollars definitely matter to the Jets. Not sure of your point, though . . . you start by saying the Jets don't need cap space next year, then you go on to say they may need it next season as a reason to trade him and retain half his salary. (?) And you say they can easily retain on him and move on; I think it's likely that the same can be said about buying him out---if the owner can stomach the extra million or so, of course! It's quite doubtful they'll be flirting with the cap ceiling next season, especially if/when the cap rises as predicted.

Anyway, I'm sure we'll have our answer soon enough! But hey, if they can get some team to deal a 2nd rounder for him, absolutely they should retain half his salary and bd done with it!!

(Again, it just won't be Seattle! Lol)happy
