I think Vilardi gets more, bit over reliant on the youth especially at RD and its a real, REAL hope on that goaltending duo

I’m wondering if a Kings fan can explain to me why we’re interested in PLD. Is his ceiling higher than his past production? If not, I’m not seeing the benefit in throwing so many assets at a guy who’s never been happy with his situation and is expecting to be paid like a 1C. I personally hope they don’t pull the trigger.

No from Winnipeg. There's nothing worth moving PLD for there. 2 bad contracts and a bust don't have much value.

Yeah essentially and it would be plausible since Dubois has basically taken a lot of leverage away from Chevy regarding the trade

Arvidsson scored at a very similar rate to Dubois this past season for only 4 million and Iafallo is a versatile forward all coaches would love who scores at a second line forward rate, also only for 4 million and is very good defensively. A far cry from being bad contracts. Turcotte like Vilardi has battled injuries early in his pro career and Vilardi figured it out this past season so it’s a good possibility Turcotte can as well and not be a bust. Plus a first round pick which is still high draft capital regardless of draft class. The best thing that can happen for Winnipeg is a bidding war but the whole league knows PLD wants out so whoever gets him still probably won’t put together a great package for him[/quote]

No, Arvidsson and Iafallo are bad contracts. Both are 30 or close to it, don't produce to their contract value and only have one year of term. Turcotte has been around long enough to be what he is. It's an extreme longshot that he gets much better.

With multiple teams bidding on PLD the Jets won't have to settle for a package that just makes them older and worse. They will get something they want.

Trades don't work like fans want them to. It won't be a bunch of pieces that you couldn't care less about losing because you realize they have little value, hence why you offer them, there will be at least one piece you don't want to lose.

It is a big hope but when Adin Hill wins a cup, you know you don’t have to have an elite goalie solely to win. Vilardis contract in this hypothetical is similar to Mikey Andersons contract from a year ago. Low contract for 1 season which turned into a bigger contract the next year

We can agree to disagree about Turcotte but his underlying stats in the AHL are excellent(good predictor of future success)and he makes everyone he plays with better, when he’s not injured of course. Iafallo is signed for 2 seasons and produced a 48 point rate per 82 games this season, plus plays responsible and can play up and down the lineup and is good defensively. I can understand the bias against his age but objectively he does produce to his contract. Arvidsson same thing. He scored only 4 less points than Dubois in only 4 more games. It’s easy to surmise that he produces to his contract. If anything you could argue Dubois produces the least relative to his contract of all 3 players. I also named it difficult decisions because contrary to your belief, most Kings fans would say that these would not be all pieces that we would just want to get rid of for low value etc. Time will tell what Winnipegs return will be and if with such a massive departure of much of their core if they will be even remotely competitive when they almost missed the playoffs this season already as it is. Of course trades don’t happen the way fans want, then why participate in the website at all then. Lol

The easy answer is time to allow Byfield to develop into the Center the team drafted him to be. He’s a bit behind on his development due to injuries mainly so PLD entering his prime could become the # 1 center when Kopitar retires and Danault can slot into the 3C and hopefully Byfield could at least be the 2C by then. I’m apprehensive about him being unsatisfied too but Columbus and Winnipeg as markets leave a lot to be desired. Not sure how it will shake out but it’s fun to pretend on here so why not

This is wrong. Per The Athletic's player value models Arvidsson was worth $3.7 million in surplus value last year. Iafallo generated $3.6 million in surplus value. Those metrics can vary from methodology to methodology, but there is no world in which those are bad contracts. None.

I'm not saying that two very-good-but-not-young-and-soon-expiring-contract players are specifically what WPG is going to want for PLD, but its not because the contracts are bad and you wouldn't want them on your team. They absolutely make the Kings better (as they would any team). As a Kings fan I would be very VERY bummed if we had to jettison both those guys (and frankly, they are so valuable to the team I don't think they will move both). I am sad that we probably will have to lose one of them to make sure we get a #1 goalie.

Is it though? Two 2nds seems like too much.

its close, maybe a bit too much. But looking at his numbers and cap hit for next year/team control its not far off.

I’d rather hold out for Byfield to improve. He made the first line better in the second half and has a much higher ceiling than PLD.
