NOTES
1. Swapping draft positions of Rangers and Devils for 2019 draft. Giving rangers 2nd pick in 2020 draft. 2019 NYR get Hughes; 2020 they draft Byfield
2. Copp trade never occurred - don't think they would have needed it if they had Hughes
3. Vatrano re-signed after 21-22 season
4, Traded Chytil for Yamamoto. Know Kailer has struggled a bit but he was the only RW I could find that was close in age and production to Chytil where a trade seemed fair for both sides.

What would happen is that the Ranger's management would have messed up Hughes and not Laf. You can't draft a #1 OA (Or #2 for that matter) player...rush him to the NHL...and then proceed to give him 13ATOI for multiple years.

Pepperidge Farms remembers


I was one of the Ranger fans that was not happy with the #2 pick - wanted #1 and Hughes. Wasn't happy with the Kaako selection - would have rather taken Dach, Zegras, or Seider. Then in 2020 instead of drafting Schneider since they wouldn't have been looking for another RD they could have actually drafted a RW like Peterka or Evangelista.
