I like the idea of Wheeler the player with this group. I'm apprehensive of Wheeler the locker room guy.

The Jets aren't going to retain on Wheeler and give him away for nothing. They'll just buy him out.

What about Wheeler 50% retained for Sharangovich?

I guess this assumes Wheeler the locker room guy is much ado about nothing, especially for one year.

Being completely honest I really don't think that should be an issue for any team acquiring him. I feel like that narrative has been blown out of proportion. Any team trading for Wheeler will be getting a professional in every aspect of the word.

1 year at $4.125m or 2 years of $2.75m.

I’d think the former would be more attractive, especially if there is a piece coming back. No?

I think we can do better selling Sharangovich elsewhere, even if it’s for another speculative buy. But if we cannot, I suppose that’s possible.

No need to be apprehensive; ignore the nonsense. There's a reason guys like Lowry and Morrissey still look up to this guy. Keep his ice time down to 3rd line mins and he'll produce. Might even give his last nut to bring the Cup to Jersey.

Wait. This price assumes two nuts. He only has one?

Blackwood doesn't do anything for the Jets, so why pay half Wheeler's salary, pay Blackwood and gain nothing?

You'll...pay more real money, and spread the cap hit over 2 years, instead of getting an asset that you *could* use even if you maybe wont?

what.

Damn, shoulda waited til the ink was dry. Yep, sorry, one of them exploded on home ice. I'm told Canada Life Centre will raise a banner for it one day.

I just don't see them doing that for a prospect they *can't* use. They also have to pay Blackwood, so at best it's a wash on salary. Blackwood will likely want a raise as well?

I just can't see them bothering, but who knows.

So you might be able to get him for straight cash after he's bought out.

I’m a fan of Blake Wheelers game, and I think he’d be a good fit with Haula and Palat on the third line. That being said I think a buyout is imminent, and all teams are just going to wait for Winnipeg to do the inevitable

They would pay Wheeler since it’s easier than buyout (if he wants to move). They would pay Blackwood to play goalie. Jets gain cap space and a goalie.

right but even if it's /nothing/ in return, its less real cash and a 1 year penalty instead of 2. I would have to imagine that's more attractive?

Maybe I should have traded Bahl for him.

But they can buy out Wheeler and sign a cheaper, probably are least equal or better goalie and Dave money. Or are you figuring Blackwood is going to take a pay cut?

The next two years aren't going to be anything for the Jets, so a ~3 mil cap hit for two years shouldn't bother them.

But maybe you're right and they'll just want Wheeler gone.

Yes, there is the assumption Blackwood signs for less if he has an opportunity (which he talked about in exit interview). But it is also very possible that his next deal comes as UFA as Devils may not extend him qualifying offer.

This is basically the “get something for nothing” strategy if Wheeler is headed for buyout and Blackwood is not tendered an offer.

If you got a year to burn and want a reclamation goalie….there are worse options.

That'll be such True North, retire the #/raise the banner for a guy that ruined seasons for the team and cost them talent.
