Description
Not saying flyers will do this, but this seems the more likely outcome vs higher picks
And this is only if the jackets circle back on Hayes. Plus the flyers are willing to retain a ton just to move Hayes out

The market is subjective. There is a vague baseline, but GM's dictate value

Very true. Just trying to gauge values of centers left on the market. Especially those that can be had for fairly cheap

Trotz really screwed the Flyers by giving Johansen away for free at 50% retention. Based on the fact that Hayes is coming off of a good season and Johansen a bad one with a bad injury MAYBE the Flyers get something for Hayes. However, the idea that they might be able to get a late 1st is now a pipe dream, and even a 2nd now looks highly unlikely.

I think if last season is any indicator, I’d rather have Hayes at ~3.5M than Johansen at 4M. Hayes contract also has more term on it, so you’re paying for a longer period of retention as well. Return might not be as high as they’d once hoped, but they won’t give him away for free if he’s retained.

I think/hope they can still get a 3rd OR a B level prospect.

True, but I don’t think the longer term is necessarily a positive for either party. Teams want short term solutions and money off the books asap. I agree Hayes will probably get more than ryjo but not much. Maybe a forth and a guy like Robinson or Bemstrom.

I don’t think that’s out of the question. I think you may have to retain that 3 million dollars to get that return. (Hayes at appx 4 million)

Yeah that goes without being said. I would do Hayes at 50% retained (3.5 million) and a 5th for one of Robinson or Bemstrom and a 3rd.

I think my concern with term has more to do with asking a rebuilding club to tie up a retention slot for a longer period of time, something that’s been proven in recent years to help them recoup assets at the TDL. But yeah, probably still won’t give them what we were thinking prior.

I’m not sure what Nashville is doing because they’ve now spent 2 of theirs on a menial amount of money with Ekholm (something like 500k), and now on no return for Johansen.

If we don’t like the price of lindholm, and if oreilly doesn’t want to sign here. I think I could do that. Absolutely.

Very true. Nashville had two of their retention slots tied up for a long time (unlike a deadline deal) which will make their deadline deals much harder moving forward. As they will only have one slot to work with while moving players out.

I think the flyers are more protective of them as per the provorov trade and taking on the bad goalie contract instead of retaining on him. It’ll be a very interesting draft to see what the flyers try and do. They are shopping their entire roster so would the be willing to use a retention slot to turn a currently negative asset into a slightly positive one?

Well put.

I’m very interested in the new Flyers under Briere. I’m willing to bet they’re going to use one on on DeAngelo, but I think the big deal will be them using one to crank the return on Konecny to the maximum. Konecny at 2.75M would be such a coveted asset.
