He would only pay California tax when playing in California. And also as long as you know how to work the tax system it really shouldn’t matter. I have clients making over $10M a year and they pay only 15-20% tax right here in Los Angeles because there are legal ways that I’m able to work around. I’m sure guys making that sort of income have good accountants.

Yeah and that a potential 43 games out of 82 so slightly more than half of the season.

Cap trouble? They have like 25M coming off the books next year and tons of cheap prospects to replace players leaving. How are they in cap trouble?

Add another $650K at minimum (if Dubois takes a discount for LA) or $1.15M if he wants Horvat money. Not sure why LA would be willing to break the bank for Dubois, here are some rate metrics:
- Dubois: 1.3 G/60, 2.8 P/60
- Vilardi: 1.4 G/60, 2.5 P/60
- Iafallo: 0.9 G/60, 2.2 P/60

Seems like such a minor upgrade to really complicate your cap situation next season.

They need to sign players, look at all the RFAs this year to sign including a starting netminder. A lot of their young players are due raises next offseason including Kaliyev and Byfield. Their cap is definitely tight in 2024

LA needs to dump more money than this trade to the Jets. The trade still might not go through. Even if everything is true, they need to negotiate PLD extension. Many trades have failed when a team couldnt agree on contract terms with a player but had the framework of a deal between clubs

Unless those young players break out into mega stars next year, none of them are getting huge raises. Once again, 25M coming off the books next year. They can't sign Byfield, Kaliyev and a goalie with some of that? Matt Roy and Arvidsson are not being resigned more than likely and Kopitar, if he decides to play won't be getting 10M again. Guy will be 37 in free agency next year.

Plus the cap is expected to go up starting next year. Honestly I don't think LAK have anything to worry about.

Trading Villardi whom has yet to hit his ceiling with longer team control seems to be a very shortsighted win now move akin to the Habs trading the promise of Sergachev for the shiny better now player in Drouin with a pay day he probably didnt merit but they were pot committed much like the KIngs will be if they agree on PLD demands.

Jets and Kings can attempt to work on all the details they want, players & picks...But PLD still needs to agree. If he intends to walk into free agency, like he has claimed all along, Jets are not getting their big assets back.

This team needs a #1 goalie and solid LHD to play with Clarke at bare minimum boys. With 2.5 million in cap space this is the definition of cap trouble

Not disagreeing with any of that with you to be honest. Lol

Simply said LAK arent in "cap trouble". They can make this trade and make everything work quite easily for the foreseeable future too.
