It doesn't. Makes no sense at all. PLD is overrated and as a Manitoba boy our Jets would be very happy with a haul like that.

I question if they have a handshake bargain contract for the team going forward for kopitar? Make it through a single season then he’s cheap and makes up the need with a cap rise possibly.

But even just for this season, how do you add 5 players, including 3 starters (goalie included) without making your team demonstrably worse to fit this in. Fine, add Anderson-Dolan and ****emo into the lineup at cheap contracts, even a 3rd at a league minimum. You just used up the rest of the cap space, and you need a 3rd pairing LD and a starting goalie. What are we doing here?

Works great if Winnipeg retains $3.5M over the entire 8 years. That's the only way the reported return makes sense.

I’m a jets fan, so not entirely sure, possibly another move on the horizon to clear off some cap for some kids maybe. Old habs gm must have Blake’s ear and chaos ensuing, kind of a jump the line before next years ufa class, but doesn’t help much if the cap just isn’t there.

Arvidsson gets dealt and a goalie is brought in at 3-3.5M. Rest league min guys more or less.

And if that's the case, in what world is moving out Iafallo, Vilardi, Kupari, Arvidsson, for PLD a win? How have you improved your team when you've jettisoned 25% of your starters for 1 guy?

And brought in a 3-3.5 million goalie? That's not a top of the line guy. That's just borderline starter money.

LA did fine without Iafallo and Kupari needs a new opportunity. So, it's really Dubois for Vilardi and Arvidsson (who I imagine wouldn't be re-signed), it's possible that they receive borderline NHL talent for him.

As for goaltending, it would be someone on a prove it deal or possibly Freddy Andersen or maybe Hellebuyck with retention.

In hindsight this trade probably looks like a massive overpay if it is as mentioned but LA simply has too many guys for players to get opportunities. LA might not improve with the Dubois movd move this year but for the future they are at least securing a 1/2C.
