Pens pass, I don't see them going after EK and paying a premium

San Jose fans are going to be very disappointed with the EK trade because he isnt getting anything near this. Maybe the Edmonton trade but I dont think that's on purpose lol

Actually hang on. Why is Toronto giving up so much more than everyone else here? Holy Toronto tax batman

Depends on the retention. I'd rather Dubas send back Granlund and worry about Karlsson's high cap hit in two years as the cap goes up. Karlsson has a full NMC too so he can easily dictate where he goes.

You are not going to get half as much as you hope unfortunately.

Knies is a none starter. He will not be moved.

I only like EK coming to the Leafs at 6.5m cap hit or less. But it doesn't sound like Grier will retain that much.

I also hope we keep Brodie if we get Ek as well.

We need to add a top dman, while keeping what we have.

As a SJ fan I dislike most of these but get your logic.
LD prospects coming back when SJ is overloaded with them.
Leafs not giving up Knies so without him in that it's not good
PIT trade is nice for the 14OA

amount of retention is the big question though... can't avoid leaving it out when considering these trades

I don't see one team offering this much for EK. do you not think if this kind of deal is out there San Jose would of made it by now?

Yes he had a good season, the last three seasons were horrible. San Jose said they aren't eating very much of his deal. If he does get traded the return ain't going to be much

Picks + Prospects. We have other assets to give. Knies wont be the prospect though.

MTL is in if you're willing to take contracts to burn off with 1-2 years left
Then this is a general idea of where we are in terms of payment if you were interested.
Thats If you'd RS 3m we'd be looking at something like:

        Vet Combo A: Dvorak(2yr) and Hoffman(1yr) OR
        Vet Combo B: Armia(2yr) and Edmundson(1yr)
Pick POV you're looking at Top 10 protected 2024 1st round pick and COL 2nd in 2024
If you took Vet Combo A then Ylonen(RHP) and Beaudin (Norlinder)
If you took vet Combo B then Kapanen(or Mysak) and Struble(or Trudeau)

If you did a swap for Kahkonen taking back Allen we'd Add in a 3rd round pick and Heineman or Rhett Pitlick (the good one in NCAA)
After that we're good with just keeping Allen for all the difference there is between the two goalies (mostly just wanted younger goalie who could grow into a tandem supporting Monty a few years)

The more bad contracts you eat though the more MTL will pay
Take on Gallagher instead of Dvorak and the Quality of the offer goes way up (x2 firsts ,Harris, Kidney or Mesar and some depth picks.
Love Gallagher but if we could swap him out for Karlsson with RS, we'd pay for that .
Why? Imagine the Turn around on Matheson after a year beside Erik Karlsson.
That alone is worth the risk as it will get back almost half the quality we'd give up

Can't see that being a substantial enough return for EK, considering retention and the players going back (?) Seattle would definitely need to subtract a contract or 2, but can't see Schwartz waiving his NMC for San Jose at this point, and Wennberg might just have them on his NT list. (?) Tough deal to execute.

I don't see any scenario here that makes sense for Edmonton. They don't have the cap space and going after Karlsson simply doesn't add up when Bouchard is breaking out offensively. They need better defense, not more offense.
