first off really good work. This is complex and well though out.

I think SJ should say yes (even though they said Hertl is off the table)
I think Seattle says no though

Seattle passes. They have Dunn. Don’t need Rielly. Could see them going after EK65 tho or a goal scoring winger but they aren’t selling the farm to do so.

Just retain an extra 1mm on EK. In no way would SJ retain on a Hertl trade. Other than that as an SJ fan I generally like the return on the trade even if it might seem light to some others giving up our 2 best players. Frees up a lot of cap to take on bad contracts.

So Toronto trades Rielly, Nylander (with full extension, 28th overall pick, Robertson, and Holmberg - so 4 NHL players and all they get is Karlsson and Hertl? .. Cicek is a nothing prospect and Soucy likely doesn’t sign due to lack of a roster spot.. Leafs pass.

Nylander with a full extension is worth more than Hertl. & honestly, I’d take Rielly any day over Karlsson and that albatross of a contract.

San Jose wins big by getting rid of two long iffy contracts....
Seattle takes on way too much cap....they could get jut as good value in free agency instead of giving up those young cap free asset.
Leafs get iffy long contract on the ageing Hertl and Karlsson......no thanks.

Geez that's not good for TO. Makes them much older and they lose so many assets on the way there.

Any thoughts of moving Nylander would have to come after Matthews resigns. The Leafs do not want to offend and scare Auston by trading one (in this Acgm 2!) of the core 5 players before he commits to a new contract.

Not to be a buzz kill, but San Jose doesn't have 2 available retention slots, and I don't believe Marner can sign an extension until Jul 1. All of this would have to happen after that so no 2023 picks involved.

Well thought out and reasonable but SJ not tying up the last 2 retention spots for 4 and 8 yrs.
