dk if you'd get Cossa and a 2nd. Not a Detroit fan, but I'd guess you'd have to add a pick/prospect(s)

Don't know if Montreal takes a callback on Petry, especially with how stacked we are on D-men rn, for a first however definitely a possibility if Pittsburgh is willing.

Hawks decline. They are at the cap floor already w/ only 17 players signed for next season. And there is no longer a spot in the top 9 for Hoffman to play.

Why does Detroit even a 2nd for Petry? Let alone our top goalie prospect too.

Hawks decline. Enough with proposals that allege to "help" the Hawks reach the cap floor... For better or worse, we are now already there; still needing six more players on the 2023-4 roster.

Possibly, it would be more of a three way trade with detroit if petry allows it so we retain cap on him

What would you say is fair to send Petry retained at 50% to Detroit? (Assuming they want him obviously)

Don't want cossa or the 2nd in particular. Was just looking for future assets that would be fair in exchange of petry at 50%. But only thing I'm sure is I wouldnt want to trade future assets to land cossa or the second. I'd rather take a smaller value for petry instead

Not even close. You think Detroit would give up one of their top prospects AND a 2nd for a 35 year old D getting paid way too much? Jeff Petry for future considerations is even a tough sell for the Wings.

Ouch, i think he stills holds value in a lesser role as a 6th or 5th dman. I'm a bit surprised, most detroit fans were not as adamant on cossa after his difficult season.

Agreed, its more to facilitate a three-way trade and recoup future assets to help the rebuild

I mean a 6th for hoffman is nothing. If any team could fit him and maximize his return at the TDL its the hawks. He could easily slot in in a top9 role over the likes of foligno, kurashev, raddysh, perry or athanasiou + he still got a lethal shot to exploit on the pp. I wouldnt be surprised if he hits the 20goal mark with you guys and gets flipped atleast for a 3rd at the deadline (at 50% retained)

Out of curiosity, if you had to put a price on cossa, what would it be? (In general or directly from mtl's assets).

For a goalie picked in the top 20, had a great year going to the AHL next year ; Min an equal prospect or if they're ready to contend middle 6 player

Wow! That's quite the take on Hoffman! Do you sell used cars as well? "Easily slots in over Kurashev, Raddysh or AA" in Hawks top 9? That's a truly ridiculous statement. Hoffman does have a lethal shot on the PP, but that is literally the only positive in his game anymore. His 5 on 5 play has declined significantly and he's been terrible defensively for years. He's a one trick pony, and it's a trick the Hawks aren't giving up anything to acquire.

Based on your glowing assessment, teams will be lining up to pick up Hoffman, so Hawks declining shouldn't be a problem for Hughes at all.

Well, you indirectly stated why I think the Hawks don't really need a guy like Hofman... Yes, he COULD slot in on a role over likes of Foligno, Kurashev, Raddysh, etc. (You didn't mention Katchouk; I throw him in that group, too.) Not only do the Hawks need nothing to reach the cap floor, but moreso (IMO) they need to find out how good Kurashev, Raddysh, & Katchouk will be! Those guys could likely flipped for a LOT more than a 3rd at the TDL.

Just not a fit for the Hawks right now. Sorry...

In the end, the way I see it: a rebuilding team needs some short term assets that could fit contenders on cheap contracts and/or ideally 1year remaining on their contracts (like hoffman). The purpose is to flip them for future assets. While I mean no disrespect to the guys I named (except perry, foligno or AA) the rest of them, will probably not get moved to contenders for a huge haul like hagel did. Assuming I'm wrong and they do get traded away, chicago still needs to lineup 12forwards for the rest of the games.

It's all about fit. Hoffman is a one trick pony, no one's denying that, but showcased in the right environment, he still could get a better return than what the hawks would have to give up for him. It's about asset management.

The guys I named's best seasons (besides perry) are close to hoffman's worse. I do think at a more reasonable price (below 2mill cap hit) contenders would give up some assets at the TDL to acquire him once he hits the 20goal-40pt mark again.

Sorry. No sale. Hawks aren't benching younger players like Kurashev and Raddysh to "showcase Hoffman in the right environment" on the off chance they can get a pick for him at the deadline. Why not bench Gallagher and just do it yourself?

I don't disagree that he holds that value, but if that's what you think, why would Detroit trade a 20 year old first round pick goalie, a position that notably takes time to develop, AND a 2nd round pick, for a guy who "hold value in a lesser role". If he was 8 years younger at his peak, even then Cossa wouldn't be touchable
