What will the jets look like

Description
It’s a shockingly deep forward group with a few decent prospects waiting in the fold. Defence is thin so hopefully they can still address that. Surelyyyy they trade Hellebyuck right? I don’t know what to do about their D, mixed it up a bit but don’t love the outcome

I can't see a Holtz for Hellebuyck trade being anything other than one for one

Probably too late for Hellebuyck to Devils. Now we are pretty much capped out.

Demelo/Dillon/stanley and heinola all probably need a new home at some point, depending on season and if selling by tdl, expiring contracts and not cracking the team full time. So if they move on from scheifele/helly possibly niedreiter, definitely a need for a tender to get them til the kids that just left junior ready, possibly 3 years ish, and also some team control or some contract length for a rhd dman or two and some Center help.

Isn't Bear injured and not expected back until December or January?

Terrible move to give away Dillon and another big dman like Stanley to sign yet another runt dman like Bear.

Rest of the league goes big, we go small?

More like replacing the runt Pionk with a similar sized player, since they play on the same side. But I hadn’t realized Bear is out half the season

Based on what Chevy has said, I suspect Helle and Scheif stay, and a couple defenseman move. Maybe it's Dillon and Schmidt; maybe Heinola, and Stanley, but I think the concentration is now on locking up some RFA's and mixing things up in the D core.

Agree, just don't understand why we want these smaller D-men here in Wpg. I'm fine with #44 on the left side and #2 on the right side....

In my opinion we need size and some grit with the other 4 spots (Dillon, Sandberg on the left side) and trade for a D-Men such as Britt Pesce type and get Johnnie K back from Mtl would be a start on retooling the right side defense.. Capolianco, Stanley and Decaln Chisholm should be the 7th and 8th D-men within this group.

Heinola, Schmidt are assets, should be moved

I really don't like the Morrissey/DeMelo pairing, really don't see DeMelo as anything more then a 3rd pair guy and both are smallish.
Really need a new partner for Morrissey more then anything else imo but that's the hardest position to fill.
I wouldn't have anymore then two smaller dmen if I was building a team.

Agree with you.... this why I'm suggesting a Pesce type, who would be a partner for #44 (this is a must need). DeMelo is on the smallest size, but could/should slide into another pairing with either Dillon or Sandberg...

The thing is, we can't change our current right side overnight, but moving some of our defensive assets that I have suggested in a earlier post would be a start, but #44 stays. And yesterdays trade was a must to get a return, but for a left side D-Man?

Pesce would be great but highly unlikely he'd extend in Canada so he's not worth spending the assets on.

I know he's not much bigger then DeMelo but I'd target Dumba for that spot IF a new home could be found for Schmidt or DeMelo or maybe Dillon though I'd prefer to keep Dillon but it sounds like Dumba is being pursued by Dallas and he probably wouldn't sign in Winnipeg anyway.

That top pair RHD spot is soooo hard to fill and Morrissey being a slight dman doesn't help matters either. Idk what they can really do there to upgrade it but it is an issue, its not like the Jets 2nd or 3rd pair are a bunch of studs either.

I think that trade was just to get an AHL body and some backup in case someone is lost on waivers like Stanley in the NHL or Chisholm from the AHL team. I really liked Gawanke's potential and think the Jets really mishandled him, he's a great skater with a heavy shot and has pretty decent size plus is that oh so difficult to find RHD, he'd skate circles around Heinola and Stanley yet they're always ahead in callups cause they were 1st round picks.. 🙄.. I hope he gets a chance in SJ.
