I think that piques the Canucks curiosity, but Backstrom at 3C? Really?

That’s where he’ll be this season. Strome - Kuzy - Backy

Well I don't think Kuzy is fetching a 1st rounder without taking salary back in return

That doesn't pique our interest at all. You are talking about retaining 40% of Garlands contract for 3 yrs. He's already worth his contract. Take out the retention and the 2nd and that's probably the lowest I'd accept for Garland, otherwise just happily keep him.

"Over the cap minimum"?!?!? We're within $6.3 million of that right now, with 5 open roster spots, 4 of whom belong to Trevor Zegras, Troy Terry, Jamie Drysdale and Lukas Dostal. We couldn't stay under the cap minimum if we tried.

T. J. is a fine player, but we don't need him.

I don’t expect kuzy to be moved. Backy isn’t what he was but can should be effective in a sheltered 3rd line role

I guess that's fine if the caps don't have any stanley cup aspirations during the remainder of Ovi's contract

I don't disagree, but he's still an awkward fit on the roster driving the offense from the third line since there isn't anywhere better to put him, and paying 5M for a 3rd line play driver isn't really ideal, at least not with regard to the season he just came off of, but it's of course a manageable inconvenience. If management could have their way, I really think they would jump at the chance to give away Garland for free if they could

You can't reliably replace him for 3 mil though I don't think. I guess I would probably just take nothing to get him off the books if pressed. I think he is worth a 3rd as a fair deal though.

Agree he doesn't fit but he is good and I'm happy to give him another shot if no one will take him. Certainly the moment it becomes a negative value trade i wouldn't consider it at all.

After watching what happened this off-season I’d be happy to get a second with no retention.

If only the rest of the league was more incentivized to pull the trigger on a Reilly Smith type of deal

Well they might be now the free agency has passed and inevitable some teams will have missed their targets.

I think we would be hearing more buzz with regard to that if it was actually the case, but hey, I suppose Taresenko is still on the market, not to mention the Debrincat saga is still waiting to drop it's final shoe, but beyond that, how many more teams are actually looking for legitimate scoring talent on the wings? That's the next question I think needs to be asked

Vlad Tarasenko and Tomas Tatar are still out there, as well as Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews, all of whom recorded more than 15 minutes time on ice in 50 games last season . . .

I mean more in the coming weeks and even leading into the season. Teams will find they didn't get who they wanted or they have the money to add or whatever the case may be and then Garland could have some suitors.

laugh Ottawa isn't trading Debrincat for futures only, Washington according to Friedman isn't even on DeBrincat. It's down to Anaheim, Detroit and the Islanders. And Friedman is still saying that he'll end up in hometown Detroit. They already said that he doesn't want to play on an aging team. He's looking at a young up and coming team like Anaheim or Detroit that he can grow with.

Woah woah woah. Leave Vladdy out of this. GMDW was just working the grill on the fourth so he couldn’t be reached for finalization of the deal.
