Same with Treliving and Murray. All reports I've read discuss it being a very tough market for dumps. It cost a 2nd to dump Bailey's buyout. That means a 2nd round pick to dump $2.3M in cash. Granlund is better, but not by a ton and still is owed $11M in cash. Start thinking a 1st round pick to dump that cap hit.

Dubas may have to take the deal he can get, there are not a lot of teams left that can absorb the cap hits AND would be willing to pay out the monies owed to the players he is looking to move.

The proposed deal with Hawks above would have Chicago absorbing cap hits of $14.5m, $11.38m and $5.13m for the next three seasons. On top of that they would be paying out $15.6m, $8.7m and $3.7m in actual $$ over the next three seasons.

Having said that and Ignoring the Reese Johnson part of the deal, do you honestly think one 2nd and one 3rd round pick represents a “fair deal”? I’m am 100% confident I know Kyle Davidson’s answer to that question… you won’t like it.

Petry is maybe a million overpaid. He's manageable if they aren't trading for Karlsson. Granlund and Carter are WAY overpaid. Carter is worth a million- maybe. Granlund is worth half his cap hit- maybe. That's over $4m/year being wasted by those two. Add in about a million Petry and Rutta are overpaid, and it's $6m total in poorly allocated cap hit. If Hextard didn't make these brain dead moves, they would easily be able to afford Karlsson. And THAT is why every overpayment in the cap era matters.

Lol what does that actually mean? A fair deal is what other teams are willing to provide. “Fair” means different things to different ppl. Arizona would laugh at that deal, how is it fair?

I honestly don’t know how the trade will or would work but Blackhawks, Sabres and Coyotes are believed to be in on Petry and Granlund.

To me looking at Chicagos roster they need a LD man not Petry. Granlund I could they would like with a veteran center for second line.

As far as draft picks you never know from deal to deal not all are the same as not every GM view players the same way. Poile raped the Penguins and Lightning of their trades last year.

I view Granlund going somewhere else having more of an opportunity then Sully would give him a doing better. Petry I’m not sure maybe he just needs to settle in injury free year he could be way better.

Casually dropping $20M on CHI and thinking a 2nd and 3rd is going to get that done.
