I wouldn't trust Kane or Tarasenko on multi-year deals.

Well obviously, Chicago is not giving up assets for Granlund's awful contract.

Maybe just maybe these guys didn't want to sign in Pittsburgh. Especially Duchene why sign with Pittsburgh and cost himself cash and not have as good of a shot at the playoffs as he would have living in no state income tax Dallas Texas?

There's some issues here though. You can't just throw Desmith, Rust, Ruhwedel, or Rutta on LTIR. Duchene clearly wanted to go to Dallas with that contract - if he would've taken that deal with the Pens he would be here. Kane is having hip surgery and out 4-6 months - wouldn't give him that rich of a deal

Tarasenko on multi-year deal? Maybe.

Kane on a multi-year deal? F*ck no.

Duchene clearly wanted to go to Dallas. Pens could've offered 1x$6M and he'd say no.

Zero desire to have kane or toews, toews may not even play again and kane is having surgery.

Wouldn't take Vlad or Kane for anything more than 1 year either.

I’m glad we didn’t waste money on Kane who can’t play for months or Tarasenko who isn’t needed. His first mistake was not buying out Granlund. That mistake was much more important than many people seem to realize because that was an extra 4M in cap space that just is down the drain. That 4M is most of what Nashville is paying ROR.

By not doing a buyout, he left us with a 5M dollar waste of a 3rd liner. That’s a roster spot taken up from potentially being able to sign a ROR or a Max Domi to be the 3C instead of Lars freaking Eller. No matter what you think of Jarry. It was inexcusable to waste another 1.5M on a bad goalie we didn’t need. You don’t need 3 goalies at over a 1M dollars. The 3rd goalie always should be on the cheap. Even the former goalie and terrible GM Hextall understood that.

The moves I would have liked to see:

1 Buyout Granlund

2 Try to trade for a goalie on the cheap. Whether that was Kahkonen, Vejmelka, Vladar, or even trying to get a cap dump goalie that we would get paid to take (I was thinking Campbell) any of those situations are better than what we did with Jarry. Unless you have one of the elite 6 or 7 goalies in the league the rest of it is a crap shoot. Vegas just won a cup and played about 75 goalies this season!

3 If one of the above goalie trades was impossible to make for some strange reason, sign a cheaper UFA. My first thought was Brossoit.

4 Get a 3C that can carry a line. ROR was by far the best option out there and we would have even had the room to sign Domi to play on his LW as well.

5 Nieto and Acciari on the 4th line are decent enough so there was no need to waste anything on Eller. I still like Jesper Boqvist as a cheap bottom six project and I’m shocked he is still available.
