Powerhouse Habs 2025 Snapshot

Created by: mh61
Team: 2023-24 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 7, 2023
Published: Jul. 7, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The Habs are maybe in the best position in the league when it comes to prospect pools, NHL ready talent, 2023/24 and 2024/25 rentals to sell off at the deadline (Hoffman, Savard, Dvorak, Allen) and cap space moving forward to sign the plethora of young talent they have

While I do not think they compete this year I believe the Habs are set up to be a powerhouse for years to come. While Many fans were upset with the Rienbacher Pick it fits well in their system and so long as he pans out the Habs D-core should be really strong with Ghule, Hutson, Barron, Rienbacher, LM, and Wifi.

Carey Price is never coming back he will spend the rest of his career on LTIR until his current deal ends giving the Habs that 10.5million to play with. The team shown below is my prediction of what the Habs look post trade-deadline the season after next (2024/25) with an explanation for almost every notable move until then.

Notice lots of trades unless they are for a specific player (Carter Hart) could be any team and usually revolve around moving a rental to a playoff contender for more picks to expand an already deep prospect pool or to sequester picks to make other moves.

Assuming these players see significant growth over the next two season if the Habs were to enter 2025/26 with this roster I would think they would be considered a powerhouse and a cup favorite entering the season. Also notice the number of good prospects still in the system (Scratch List) and the amount of picks they could potentially sequester to make more changes by this point. Overall the Habs along with the Ducks and Blue Jackets may have the brightest outlook 2-5 years down the road out of any other NHL teams

The Kings didn't "miss out" on goaltenders this summer. They can't afford goaltenders. Talbot is the best goaltender they can afford, and they had to give him half his salary in performance bonuses so they will defer to next season.

The Kings starting goalie is still Copley. Talbot is there to back him up. I'd take either/both of those guys over Allen, even if Allen didn't have triple the cap hit this season.

Oh honey, Montreal is not in good shape at all.

Poor drafting, bloated contracts and zero star players

If Jeannot (career 0.38ppg) is worth Foote, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th then Dvorak (Career 0.5ppg, over a larger sample size) who is 1 year older is more disciplined, better skater, and higher IQ player could definitely fetch a similar price.

🤣 teams won’t pay for cap dumps, definitely not borderline nhl players for high picks at the deadline.

What inflated values for minimal-worth players.

Armia is barely worth a fifth, with that under-water bloated contract; the one-dimensional Hoffman is barely worth a fourth; Allen is a decent backup who's worth a third; Dvorak isn't worth a first; and trading Harris marks Montreal as a team that would stab a youngster in the back.

if apples cost $2.99 per pound, then my oranges could definitely fetch a similar price

Devils aren't paying a 1st for a player that would barely crack their fourth line

No one especially TB is giving a 2for the extreme defensive liability that is Hoffman for a playoff run.

Edit:With the possible exception of Armia every other GM hangs up on Hughes and Blocks his number over these 💩 offers
