Borgen doesn't get a lot of name recognition, but last year he seized his opportunity and ran with it, working his way up the lineup and onto the second pair as a burgeoning shutdown defender. In my opinion, he's become one of the more underrated defensemen in the entire league. A 2 year, $2.7M AAV contract is about what I expected for his next contract. Personally I would have liked to have seen an extra year or two added on to his deal, but that might just be because I'm a big fan of Borgen and want him to stick around in Seattle for a while. As it stands I think this is a nice contract for both sides. Seattle gets another couple of years of Borgen at an affordable rate while retaining cap flexibility for the future and can extend him down the line, and Borgen triples his previous salary while putting himself in position for a nice payday in a couple years' time.
