Leafs pass. Nylander is younger. And frankly if we move on its to redistribute the money.

Panarin is better though.

I would also much rather have Willy but if Trev doesn't want to pay the guy and we're forced to trade him i'd rather get an elite winger back then trade him for scrubs like Bjorkstrand and Oleksiak that everyone keeps posting

Not wrong. And bread has been amazing. Only 3-4 players have more points over the last 4-5 seasons. And 2 of them are McJesus and Drais..

I want the leafs to win the cup, if Trev doesn't pay Nylander and wants to trade him then we need a big time player back

It's a conversation worth having but no way the Ranger would retain on Panarin. Panarin is the better offensive player and is only signed for 3 more years, so would rather have that then Nylander's next contract of 7 or 8 years.

I mean with the retention on panarin they get Nylander for the same price, whos younger and arguably might be better then panarin from here on out

So let me get this straight..

Toronto trades the younger player and arguably the same skill, but better and more consistent playoff performer for the older player that adds to their struggles of playoff failures. & on top of that, they pay the same cap hit for the player but get him for 4 less seasons and don’t get anything extra with it?

Why would Toronto consider this? If Nylander signs that contract it would be in Toronto.

What are you talking about, No one wants to keep Nylander more then me, Trev is not gonna pay the guy 10mill, I' think a offer of 9.5mill would be good but I still don't think Trev will go for it

If we're losing Nylander in a trade i'd rather get a superstar back not scrubs in a trade

Nylander can drive play better in the playoffs so I take it

**the issue is resigning all the youth. It probably still works but needs to be calculated

True, but for 7 or 8 years as he ages. With Panarin, it's 3 more years in his prime and then done.

Panarin doesn't show up in the playoffs. And he'll be resigned. It's the 12th for crying out loud. Negotiations are on going.

In the playoffs though, how's he been, that's where I don't like how he's played.

This season he wasn’t good. Last year he was

* nylander drives in the playoffs better no doubt, read up and I’ve already stated this. The OP is saying you “must trade” and this is better than scraps and fill ins. Panarin isn’t walking in a winning you a cup the same way Nylander wasn’t. They aren’t messier. They are just high talent guys, one higher than the other, one younger than the other.

You said this deal has Nylander signing a $9m x 7 year extension.. but you have New York retaining on Panarin making him a $9m player for 3 years.. Nylander at $9m for 7 years is worth more than Panarin at $9m for 3 years.

I simply disagree. I think it's non ideal we have too much money tied up win two wingers. We have him so we shouldn't throw him away, but ideally we would spread the cap more

The truth is, the NHL is not the NBA where a couple of superstars can be an entire team. A super star forward is on the ice like 1/3 of the game tops. We may be better with a deeper team

Plus panarin is getting old

The vultures in this site have been circling the Leafs since Matthews was drafted hoping to see it blow up. They don't need to trade him and he will resign but they will hope for ever

Not to spoil the discussion, but Panarin has a full NMC and refused to sign anywhere but New York in free agency. There's no chance he waives it to go anywhere else. New York is stuck with him, for better or worse.

I don’t think he wants to leave. The question isn’t if the can afford him. It’s if they want sink 9.5M in him and 13-14 in AM34. Me, I would, run its course till Tavares is done and signs a cheap deal afterwards. But the vultures you speak of are leaf fans just so you know. Many say trade 1/4, something new and different, etc. easily the most offensive team and no playoff success till the 2nd round this year. I run it back.. many leaf fans wouldn’t.. OP is a leaf fan moving 88, in a NYR fan saying it’s the wrong move. Who’s the vulture? Leaf fans or 31 other fan bases 🤔

I live in Toronto and see it first hand, hear it first hand.. it ain’t trolls man. Toronto media, the actual fans, and I mean guys who go to multiple playoff games. Sure, there’s probably some fake accounts here to make nonsense posts which I’ve seen, they do it to everyone.
