NYI Trade

Created by: Leafsmania
Team: 2023-24 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 12, 2023
Published: Jul. 12, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Leafs get RD they have needed and locked in. Pageu is solid 3C I can see playing a lot in the playoffs lile Gourde did for Tampa or Seattle
NYI get a temporary replacement in Brodie plus scoring help in Nylander. While he is not your typical NYI player, he has the ability to add goal scoring which is something they need.

To me, Leafs have extra scoring wingers and NYI have extra big defenders. Though NTC probably make thisoot but I would be okay as a leaf fan with this.

And overall, I doubt Lou would trade Pulock but fun to think about

Pulock would be a huge add. Definitely the type of Dman we could use. Losing Nylander and Brodie would hurt.

I personally would make this move since Pulock is signed to a very good cap for 7 more years.

Pageau is a solid 2 way centre but 3 years at 5m is steep (it is reasonable though).

I can see the move making sense for both teams. I am sure a lot of people will dislike it on both sides though.

I understand how this looks roughly fair at first glance but you'd be getting 10 years of Pageau/Pulock for 2 years of Nylander/Brodie.

NTC stands for No Trade Clause, and since Pulock has one it means that proposing a trade for him is pointless.

Not necessarily, there's lots of circumstances where players waive those clauses. Not sure if this would be one of them, but being close minded is never a good thing.

If he requested a trade or was being actively shopped I’d agree with you, but at the moment your proposal is pure fantasy since the player you are targeting hasn’t been made available.

Isles don't agree....simple reason is Pullock is our RD #1 pairing, locked up at a reasonable rate for the next 5 years. Not looking to pay Nylander $10M for 8 years.

A lot of people come here to discuss a players value, whether or not they are available, etc.

My thought was that with Dobson, NYI have a younger option. I think Nylander as a 40 goal scorer would help add some bite to the isles offense. With Mayfield, Romanov, Pelech, Dobson, and Brodie from the trade, they still have a solid D. Then Sorokin as well.

Agreed that pullock is valuable and has a NTC, but this is mainly about guaging fairness

If Nylander comes with an extension, it's definitely better, but I think NYI would rather keep Pulock.

Pulock is basically immovable at this point in time. There's just nothing in the pipeline behind the NHL guys at RHD - they have Grant Hutton (28 years old, 16 NHL GP), Paul Ladue(31, 70), and Aidan Fulp (23, UDFA) under contract, and 2020 7th rounder Tomas Machu's rights. Sure, TJ Brodie could come in and do a decent imitation of Pulock for 2023-24, but that leaves you with the decision of extending a 34 year old guy next summer, or hoping you can get a decent option in UFA.

As said above, it's basically getting a pair of rentals at the cost of 7 years of Pulock and 3 years of JGP. It's filling one of your holes (top line winger) by creating another big one at RD1. And that's before you get to the cost of whatever a Nylander extension looks like - because he sure as hell better be sticking around if Pulock gets traded for him. As much as I dislike this value for the Isles in general, it's a borderline inexcusable trade if Nylander comes without an extension already in place.

Ya, I think reading through these pulock is not an option for Nylander. Leafs would probably target dobson here
