My ask revised

Created by: arafay
Team: 2023-24 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 14, 2023
Published: Jul. 14, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
My ask has not changed, but they hellebuyck contract has. Here's my salary breakdown:
Y1: 10M
Y2: 9.5M
Y3: 9M
Y4: 7.5M
Y5: 5M
Y6: 4M
------------
= 7.5Mx6years

I'd still ask for holtz and vanacek. The first isn't mandatory, but since it's a late 1st anyway it doesn't hold so much value. A second would do though with an additional 3rd instead. That being said, the first is really fair since the jets are retaining the full year in a tight cap season.

Whether NJ is willing to pay this or not, chevy has proven to be patient and he will wait until he get something he wants or close.

As a neutral fan in this argument, I have seen Devils fans offering literal garbage, so I know why Jets fans would be irritated, but I still see no realistic world where Holtz and a First are both included in the same deal for a goalie. It's either Holtz with a 2nd or a 1st with a prospect down a tier like Stillman. A negotiation requires both sides to budge, and if the Jets won't budge i don't think the market to sell him will be there. Not enough teams are forming a big line to get a goalie.

I completely agree. I think the actual deal comes down to something a bit less than I said, as it always is in a deal.

As I said, I would probably take vanacek, holtz, a 2nd, and a mid round pick/prospect.

Plenty of Devs fans much more realistic (along your idea) then most Jets fans. This post is a perfect example of that. We trust Fitzy will do the right thing.

Precedent says that prospects as good as Holtz don't get moved for goalies. If Holtz were to be in the trade, it would be one for one.

1st, top prospect, and quality starter for a 31 year old rental goalie (extension on UFA players isn't a real value thing no matter how much you want it to be)

I just don't see Hellebuyck getting the return most Jets fans seem to think he's worth or want for him, sure he's a Vezina winner and finalist but he's also been a first round exit more often then not plus are GMs not looking at recent cup winners and thinking that maybe they can win with a less then household name goalie.

Add those factors to a small market for goalies, his ridiculous contract want and league wide cap crunch you'd think it will lower the return for Hellebuyck should he be traded which hopefully he will be, Jets need to NOT sign him to his next deal unless it's a sign and trade.
