Strip it back to Pesce+ for just Nylander. The Murray add is a bit funny, but let's get past that. We can't throw in Necas or Jarvis. We're looking to add to our top-6 rather than swap out or trade up. Necas might not be far off from Nylander ceiling any how so that wouldn't make a lot of sense. I would add a 1st or a 2nd depending on the prospect going back. A depth player could be thrown in, too. What's the true need for Toronto in return?

The first is to take on the matt murray contract... he's a cap dump and a first seems like a fair price to take the contract off your hands. That trade was ridiculously in favor of Toronto

This site is nuts and mayhem sometimes, but I do have some faith (maybe this wrong and my fault) that if a group of Canes posters started with an outlandish structure of a trade or a player who just wouldn’t be traded from a team, there would be adapting over time and those posts would die on the vine.

I see this variation of Nylander for some combo of {Jarvis,Necas,Pesce, Picks} and it persists and seems to even be mutating into an even bigger problem over time.

I accept your apology without the need for Murray as payment. Canes fans are too nice of a bunch to accept payments such as this.

Im biased cuz I’ve never really liked Nylanders euro style, so for that reason im way more reasonable when it comes to selling Nylander. And I feel like Pesce is exactly what toronto needs this season, but I know the Canes need a gamebreaker and someone to take a load off of Necas while he develops. Theres a deal here for sure, both of these impact players are marginalized in their current roles. For me its Martinook as the added roster player who comes with Pesce. And then draft capital, perhaps a 2nd. But we also have a good offensive threat who’s due for a breakout year in Nick robertson - I could see him being a good fit with your team. So if that interests you guys then just add more draft capital. Maybe a first along with the existing 2nd. Both the players heading your way have exceptional releases which is useful in a north and south system that emphasizes pucks on net. They don’t need to play with playmakers in order to be effective

Nylander is worth a good chunk more than Pesce though (obviously not even in the same stratosphere to what this ACGM added on top of Pesce but he is worth more) and Tervainen did not play up to his contract last season either. Not suggesting his contract is Matt Murray level but I don't think the Leafs would be adding a pick to get this deal done

Pesce + 1st would get it done, Leafs could do Nylander + Robertson back maybe. Robertson if he does well with a new chance could be another help to the scoring issue in Carolina. What Leafs need out of a Willy trade is either a slew of assets that will allow them to rebalance the lineup a bit, or a rock solid top 4 RHD and an asset that can be a significant piece in a package to get a replacement forward.

Complete wishlist for the offseason, assuming a Nylander trade happens, would be top 4 RHD, proper 3C, replacement 2RW, Murray dumped. Not saying all of that has to be returned in a Nylander trade necessarily but yea
