MTL decline the 2nd trade

Boqvist has been in the NHL for 4 years and has never played more than 52 games.. better offensively than Harris, sure enough, but Harris is more reliable. CBJ has a surplus of RHD while MTL has too many LHD.

Harris has a single 65 game season. You're reaching with labeling him as more reliable. The Jackets also don't need LHD though. If they trade Boqvist I'd hope they get picks or include him in a package for a top 6C.

CBJ also has a surplus of LHD, they are going to trade some for forward or picks

Take the second out of the deal and Pens accept. Otherwise, lol, Hoffman is even worse than Granny.

I think the Pens decline as well. Hoffman only saves $500k over Granny - so they'd still be over the cap - and is also on the decline and 2 years older going to the team that's still the oldest in the league.

It's not a question of who is better, they are both cap dumps, but one got one year remaining while the other have terms

Yes Harris is better overall than Boqvist, but not because CBJ have a surplus of RHD means they need LHD
Both MTL & CBJ have a lot of NHL defenseman but not a lot of top 6 forwards
Bad trade partners

While that is true about term, the penguins are clearly in absolute win now mode. So if they have to play one of the two i'd rather play the guy that's got a better chance to stay healthy and contribute vs. be focused on term remaining. Either pay to move Granlund to open cap, buy him out or play him over Hoffman.

Yes Pittsburgh might decline that trade offer, not because MTL wouldn’t do it PIT should do it. It’s just a bad team for both sides

That's not what my concern was with the trade. What do the Penguins get out of this deal? They don't get a player that will make them better. They don't get under the salary cap. They give up draft capital.
The Pens still have several immediate problems that this trade does absolutely nothing to solve. Just buying Granlund out with DOC's arbitration would be much more beneficial than this.

The only thing that PIT get out of this deal was getting rid of one year of Granlund
But the buyout option is a better way than paying a 2nd
