A 3C ain't enough for a 1RD... Canes pass. I don't mind Backlund, would absolutely welcome him in Raleigh, but this is just not enough

Gonna be a quick and easy no. Could see canes inquiring on backlund at some point this year for some future picks, dealing pesce straight up for him isn’t even a consideration. Not to mention it’s probably likely CGY isn’t on his list.

Not expecting to ship Pesce out as a rental. I would just keep him and take another stab at an extension a bit later.

Rental, but he's also such a good player. I'd expect a 1st, young D man, and a prospect. If he wasn't a rental, I'd expect a lot more for a guy that is among the best RD in hockey

Pesce is a UFA next year, likely won't waive for Calgary and is considerably more valuable than Backs. Plus it would be insane to play him on our 3rd pair

Trading Hanifin for Debrusk makes no sense because he's also UFA and we'd have to overpay to keep him

That would probably be the greatest return of all time if that happened for a guy who isn’t even a top 10 RD and is a rental

rose colored glasses much? Pesce is a good hockey player that is very capable of playing top 4 minutes but he is not a 1D by any stretch of the imagination. This would be the exact same as me saying Jordan Stall ain't enough for Chris Tanev. Pesce for Backlund might not be a 1 for 1 but they are way closer than you seem to think.

Regardless Pesce being an American player 1 year from UFA isn't going to sign an extension in Calgary so the point is moot

Bruins not doing that. Defense and Goaltending depth is already good.

Mcavoy
Hamilton
Heiskanen
Pulock
Seider
Spurgeon
Karlson
Bouchard
Carlo

Pesce is better than Carlson, Pulock, Seider, Spurgeon, Bouchard and Carlo.

Carlson is AWFUL defensively, and his offense just doesn't make up for it, he's incredibly overrated. Pulock is a make-a-wish Pesce. Seider is a lot like Zegras, he's flashy but he's overrated. He's a fine 2nd pairing D man, Pesce is a 1RD. Spurgeon is close, but I'd rather have Pesce. Bouchard is comical, Pesce is just better in all 3 zones, and I've had this debate with Oilers fans. Carlo made me actually laugh. You can't be serious with that right?

What makes Pesce a rental? Because he has one year remaining on his deal? Cant you argue that both players are rentals then?

Don’t think he’s too 10, but I’d take him over Bouchard and Carlo at least in the short term. Probably closer to 15ish range for me. Now adding in age and contracts complicated that ranking, so that’s a whole other can of worms.

I don’t think backlund is enough to get pesce but I don’t think pesce is worth a 1st round pick young defensemen and a decent prospect

Also backlund would probably be willing to re sign for a lot cheaper as for pesce from what I’m hearing is looking for term and a big pay raise

W take honestly and maybe some would agree pesce is better than Carlo and Bouchard but he definitely ain’t more valuable

Yeah Carlo contract and Bouchard cost control and potential definitely vault them ahead in overall and long term value. It’s why Canes can’t find a deal for Pesce - they probably are stuck at 4ish years and he wants the 7-8 year deal.

Yeah, Backlund is 34. He gets cheaper at this point. But production could drop off at any time. That would strictly be a short term fix. Pesce is 28 and should get a raise but I wouldn't want more than 4-5 years tops.

True but Backlund is very fit, and he is your replacement for Bergeron for 2-way play, he gets many Selke trophy votes every year
