Description
2018 Canadian WJC team

None of us know what Justice is in this case, so no reason to debate what punishment should apply.

But if they suspend eight guys, there are bound to be some good players on that list. Will impact season for some teams.

I think this is likely the reason why some of these players haven't signed

Formenton is the interesting one, as OTT decided not to give him a contract last year.

I can't recall, but I believe a few of these guys have come out denying their involvement. Others have been real quiet.

Don’t really agree with this post to be honest.

You’ve just gone ahead and posted the entire roster whilst most of them have already commented or confirmed alibis (not at the event, wasn’t even in the city at the time etc.).

There’s speculation already released on who those 8 players of interest are not sure why you wouldn’t chose to focus on just those players

Gotta be…at least in Formenton’s case.

But McLeod, Howden, Steel, Mete, Clague all got new contracts in last few weeks…maybe good sign for them.

i agree not all of them are equals, but i wont take ''denying being part of it '' as proof. but i agree with your general argument.

If all these bottom line guys are “good sign” that would mean, some stars are in a bad position…

I did see a lawyer comment on this…basically said ignore the ‘public comment vs no comment’ split. He thought that would not be an indication of who gets sanctioned. Different lawyers give different advice.

Wasn't there just one or two members of the team that are allegedly apart of the criminal investigation?

I think many have been "cleared" (personally, I think all of them knew about it all and the denials are empty but that's a different debate) but some top guys have still not been cleared. Makar for example, I think is still very much in danger here.

When it comes out though, I for one hope they get the absolute book thrown at whoever is involved. Minimum 1 full year suspension, I would ban them for life if it was up to me.

I already know Mete has proven he was not in the country when the event had taken place, he was in Jamaica. Therefore, I don't believe he should be on this list

Or a terrible sign for the NHL. If GM's still operate under the "boys will be boys" mentality and excuse this heinous act, then thats going to look horrible for the league.

I have not seen the list of eight names believed to be on list. But that is it. It’s just speculation. We have no idea at this point.

And commenting on the matter doesn’t tell us much either.

I think there's at least "evidence" pointing to it being:
McLeod, Formenton, Batherson, Katchouk, Raddysh, Howden

Obviously there's no proof yet, but it seems that Ottawa has a lot to lose here.

Every player has different lawyers, different legal advice, different circumstances, and may be facing different charges. I can’t read the tea leaves. So I didn’t take anyone off the list.

On top of Formenton, I thought it was pretty interesting Raddysh and Katchouk got traded right around when the investigation got announced.

I think the only guy that actually had a concrete alibi is Mete. The college players also had decent ones but nothing guaranteed.

One thing I will mention. “John Does” were from the Canadian Hockey League, comprising the Ontario Hockey League, Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and Western Hockey League."
You can take out Makar, Point, and Fabbro.

Batherson, Thomas, Kyrou, Makar and Hart are the guys I think would materially impact their clubs if faced with long suspension.

I don't think it would affect contracts. Great way to get the NHLPA to sue you, especially if it turns out your guy was uninvolved.

That is from the original lawsuit. If the same 8 names get sanctioned by NHL…not all of them will be from this list (as some of those “John Does” were not on WJC team, but were in CHL).

Both sides (NHL and NHLPA) have established that there doesn’t have to be a criminal charge to lead to a suspension. I would imagine there is something in CBA that would protect them from lawsuit in that case.

I'd still go business as usual until there's any official allegation. Unless there's a cap penalty for the suspended player.

Formenton being the exception implies he's the main perpetrator, but it also seems that he was a POS to begin with.

if formenton was a 80 point guy, he would have a contract.
