An extended Nylander is worth a crazy amount more than Karlsson.

SJ is not giving up EK with retention and their probably top 10 pick for a guy they dont need during a rebuild and cap dump lol

No guarantee Nylander signs and can't see Brodie waiving to a non playoff West Coast team

This trade may not make sense to San Jose, but sharks are going to have to:
1/ retain salary, no chance anyone could afford EK at full ticket
2/ take back salary, no competitive team (that I am aware of) has cap space for EK; could do a lot worse than Brodie

Lol San Jose moving a 100 point Norris winner and a top 5 1st is hilariously bad

Neither of those address the actual problem with this trade, where the team in the middle of a rebuild gives up their best player and most valuable draft pick in exchange for a pending UFA. Why would Nylander want to sign a contract like that with a team he knows will not be competitive for at least 3 years?

I don't think any Sharks fans genuinely think the team will move Karlsson without retaining anything, but I think anyone with a brain will know that there is a 0% chance the Sharks trade their 1st for the next couple of years.

Look at most of the proposed SJS-PIT Karlsson trades. It's basically Karlsson with retention for 2-3 high draft picks and a cap dump, as well as an ok prospect. You know, things a rebuilding team actually wants?
