Are you sure? Has he recovered from his concussion? Funny thing about concussions the systems can return and persist for months or years

Anaheim isn't going to retain $3.25 million in exchange for a guy we wouldn't pay more than a fifth for.

Yes.

He recovered from his concussion when he was cleared to play 2 months ago.

If the concussion returns and persists for 10 games and 24 days during next season, he can be placed on LTIR.

Until then, he's not eligible.

To qualify for LTIR, a player must be expected to miss at least 10 NHL Games AND 24 days of the NHL season

Key word is EXPECTED so he can be placed on LTIR to start the season,

And that expectation is determined by the League.

It is about 2 and a half months between the buyout window this week and the start of the season in early October.

If you want the Leafs to gamble on something that is beyond their control, then best of luck.

The Expectation is determined by a doctor. Its not a gamble IF they go down that road conversations would be had between all parties. Just like Kucherov a few years ago.

And that doctor would be approved by the league to give an impartial and transparent assessment of Murray's condition.

If that assessment doesn't indicate that Murray is out for the entirety of next season, Murray would have to be activated whenever he's cleared to play.

That would mean his cap hit will have come back on the books and the Leafs will have violated the salary cap if nothing is done about it.

I am genuinely amazed by how many people think you can just magically place any player with any injury history on LTIR at any time their team needs cap relief.

I am also amazed by how many people don't want to buy out Murray only because it would give Ottawa cap relief on his salary retention.

But I guess no amount of wishful thinking or gullibility should ever come as a surprise on this site.

The doctor does not need to be approved by the league look at the Jack Eichel situation with Buffalo. The league could ask for a 2nd opinion but d with everything going on with concussions they would error on the side of caution and there is no way to prove that he doesn't have symptoms.

Robidas, Lupal, Kucherov, Stone, Hossa (allergic to his equipment) has shown where there is a will there is a way.

I think your gullible to think that teams don't think and use everything they can get away with skirting the salary cap.
