Are you selling or buying? Doing both is just more mediocrity

Fair point, but isn’t perpetual mediocrity the Flames thing lol?

It is but that shouldn't be the goal of fans on here just the expectation with reality

Stop this backlund non sense. Sabres already have their center core plus. We aren't giving up assets for a ufa defensive center.

An elite defensive centre who just put up 56 points. I understand not wanting to give up assets, but don’t undersell him he’s miles better than either Jost or Krebs. I just figured you guys were sick of missing the playoffs and wanted to improve for this year

Yeah I know, but in this scenario we’d try to extend Lindy and Nylander before the deadline if they click. Then if not, we trade both plus Tanev/Brodie and truly begin a rebuild

Krebs for Backlund in this market is probably overpay from Buffalo. I don't hate the idea. Sabres wouldn't add a pick here. Flames probably do tbh.

You think Flames add a pick do downgrade? Even in this market Calgary got a pick for downgrading from Toffoli to Sharangovich

I don't see why the Flames would add a pick, I thought the value was pretty close when you compare to what Backlund would fetch at the deadline. Maybe swap the second for a third, but becomes a second if BUF makes the playoffs?

No doubt. And the downgrade from Backlund to Krebs is massive. If we're not rebuilding, I'd rather just extend Backs for 2-3 years, but who knows if he's interested

Guy would have been 7th on the Sabres in points ahead of non-defensive Oloffson, Quinn, Peterka, Krebs etc. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

Eh, maybe. I think Krebs has more value than Sharangovich. Younger, developing 2 way center. 1 for 1 isn't that unreasonable imo.

Yeah, sure. Like in my post above, 1 for 1 or Buffalo does a mid pick is probably fine either way.

I’d probably do this if backlund were a few years younger. At 34, idk if the age curve catches him this year.

As a Sabres fan I strongly agree here. Backlund would be a great asset to this team, and I'd probably part with Krebs to accomplish it. Hopefully he'd stick around for a few years. I'd hope his decline makes him continually effective for another couple years.

Younger yes, but Sharangovich is at this point in time a better player. Krebs is going into his D+5 season now. Sharangovich is going into his D+6 year. The difference there really isn't that big

I’m not sure how much more you’re expecting to get for him. Not many teams have the desire, assets or cap space to acquire him

you're right, it's not. But Backlund's got 3 years on Toffoli too. 1 for 1 is probably fine, but I wouldn't be surprised really if a mid pick was added to either side.

Really this is a pretty good trade.

i'd honestly rather keep him and let him walk than trade him for mangiapane and zadorov. if hanifin was willing to extend in toronto then maybe i could see a deal coming together but otherwise i just don't see it

Backlund at 34. Is not a realistic target. I'm not trading Krebs and a 2nd to make the playoffs. That's a trade you make to win a cup.

Timeline is off. I would rather hope Krebs becomes a Backlund rather than one year for an upgrade at 3c.

Yeah that’s fair, might be a little early in BUF’s timeline. I think the value is right though if a trade were made. And yeah I agree Krebs would ideally become Backlund type player if things go well, similar production at the same age although Backs still had a stronger possession/defensive game back then

Well u can stop putting any kind of thought into it bc the Sabres are NOT trading Krebs for a “rental”
That’s absurd dude, come on now
