Broberg is unproven in the top-4, I think trading Ceci now would be premature. This team finally has four legit top-4 defenders, why trade the cheapest one for just a mid-round pick? So you can bring in a 4C? I'd take a top-4 defenseman over a 4C any day.

Broberg is still only 22, and has spent only 2 years I North America. Very premature to be moving a waiver exempt D who still has value.

I think Oilers fans need to pause and think about their expectations of Broberg..... because this post reminds me of what Sens fans thought of Brannstrom a couple years ago. The latter has rounded into a very good player, albeit the offensive upside most thought he had isn't there.

Would I send Broberg to Bakersfield? Yes. Play the snot out of him. But there is a pedigre there that remains untapped.... maybe that won't happen in Edmonton. But if that is the case he is more a centrepiece of a deal than an after thought for a 4th.

This is one of the main reasons why Broberg needs to be moved. If he cant slot in in the top 4 then he doesn't fit. No way he should be bumping Kulak out of 3LD, and show me the proof that Broberg or Kulak can effectively play RHD. Broberg does not fit into this roster in the "win now" timeline. Ceci is fine, but to say he is a legit top 4 defender, nah, he is 3RD on a defensively good team. He is a cap casualty, would love to keep him for 3RD, but cant do it with the cap.

Dowd is arguably the best 4C in the league and important to the Caps. Do get them to move him will have to cost a lot more than that.

Your 'young rookie defenseman didn't get thrown to the wolves so he's useless trade him already' schtick is pretty silly and shortsighted. He played sheltered minutes, which is perfectly normal, and put up very good numbers in the minutes he was given. He was a rookie defenseman who posted 58.65 xGF%, he's clearly got potential and should be kept. My point is that he's unproven in the top-4, not that he can't get there.


Every team Ceci has played on has had him in the top-4. The past 2 years he's been on the top pairing, and not only that he's played among the hardest minutes in the league. Only 3 defensemen have played more minutes v Elites over the past 2 seasons and only 7 have played more minutes overall v Elites. And he posted 51.55 xGF% over that period. That's not '3rd pairing on a good team' quality. With a cap hit of just $3.25M he's a bargain - definitely worth more than a 4th round pick.

Overall you're making the team worse for no actual reason. Ceci doesn't have to be moved for cap purposes or any other reason, you just moved him so you could bring in a 4C.
