Guentzel was Crosby's winger over 90% of the time last season.
If Olofsson had The KId feeding him the puck he would get close to 40 goals.
I seriously doubt Jake could produce as well playing without Crosby.
So, thank you for stopping the Sabres from making a terrible trade.

If Newhook (63 pts over his last 153 games) could fetch the 31st and 37th OA, there is absolutely no reason why Casey (110 pts over his last 163 games) could not return the 22nd or better.
At the beginning of the season many were happy to send Casey to the moon.
Today unless there was good reason to move him a first would be inadequate.

@Windjammer Good, Savioe or Peterka have the potential to be nearly as good as he is now.

Lastly, I think it is HUGE error to trade away our depth.
DA Tim Murray did this and we were presented with many last place finishes as we had a great first line, one mid six forward, a bipolar GK and two NHL defensemen when he was mercifully fired.

Guentzel has 16 goals, 24 assists and a plus-minus of +9 in 38 games without Sidney Crosby in his career. Jake can hold his own

While Olofsson had 2 goals in 9 minutes with Okposo and Girgensons as his line mates last year.
Connor Sheary set a season high with 21 goals in only 61 games during the 2016-2017 season with Crosby as his center 80% of the time.
In the 2020-2021 season Sheary spent just 167 minutes with Ovechkin and Kusnetsov (about 18% of his ice time) yet scored 7 of his 19 goals.
    Centers and line mates matter

You can reject that trade which is fine, but it is absolutely terrible for the Sabres.

Unfortunately most Sabre fans malign Olofsson.
Over the last four seasons Boeser has played 583:45 more minutes than Olofsson but has one less goal (80 v Olofsson's 81).
Two seasons since they both signed new contracts each Boeser goal cost $309,302 while each Olofsson goal cost $197,917.
Last season Brock played over 60% of the time with one of Miller, Horvat or Petterson as his line mate.
Last season Victor played about 10% of the time with our top two centers Cozens or Thompson.
Last season he had more goals than DeBrincat yet he played 483 fewer minutes.
Finally, only 22 NHL forwards scored at a faster rate than victor's 1.6 goals/60 last year, (Guentzel was at 1.4).

Not to be misunderstood here, I would not think of trading Victor for Jake, only this is a bad trade for Buffalo!
    So let's agree to disagree.

Jake has shown he can play without Sid in the past.

I don't watch enough buffalo hockey to truly comment on Olofsson, and would assume that his stats would go up a bit with sid as his center yes.

it's still a bad trade for Pittsburgh though, Jake and Sid have a very solid connection and when they're in absolute win now mode the price to take that away is high. The penguins would need to replace Jake with someone that they know would immediately have the same impact. Jake is also a PPG player in the playoffs (58 GP 58 Pts) that alone is a lot to replace, and idc who you're playing with, if you're a PPG player in the playoffs that's not an easy thing.

So yes, it isn't a great trade for Pittsburgh given the circumstances. I think the value is good don't get me wrong, but I just don't think it's bad because it doesn't help keep them in win now mode.

Clayton Keller is going to get a Jack Eichel like package if he’s traded. He’s coming off an 86 point season, and is signed to a bargain 7 million per year deal contract for the next 5 years, and he’s healthy.

The starting point will likely be Jack Quinn or J.J Peterka and a first rounder. Ostlund and a first will not be near enough.

I like how you totally ignore the other very good prospect in Wahlberg, a 2nd, and a young roster player like Joki.

It is a nice try and if Winnipeg rebuilds they would be incredibly stupid not to consider 2 extremely promising young players, a 1st, and Jordan Greenway who is easily the best player in the deal.

The pens are in win now mode, this doesn't benefit them at all. The value itself is fine, although I know nothing about either prospect, it's just not likely to happen. They're talking about an extension for Jake anyways, and as long as Sid is around Jake probably isn't leaving.
