No way Canes make that deal. IF by chance the Leafs have the cap as you suggest just keep Brodie and Jarnkrok instead of acquiring Jarnkrok.

Not a chance on that Hurricanes trade... top 10 defensemen and top 12 centers don't grow on trees and Auston Matthews and some scraps aren't going to do it

But the craziest is the Washington trade. Marner is worth way more than Wilson and strome and you have the Leafs adding a first. What?

Plus they just picked up Orlov. They keep the farm young while aqurikg Matthew’s and building the future with great prospects .

Slavin is the anchor of that defense that helps keep them where they are and he's young enough that he'll probably be good enough at that level for another 3-4 years given his strength and the type of games that he plays. The Hurricanes wouldn't move Slavin they would move Skjei or Pesce. The hurricanes are in win-now mode and those prospects don't help right away except for Timmins

I agree in regard to the cap space, but it's far from an easy no. As a standalone the trade doesn't make sense, but with other moves it might. For example in the scenario where Hanifin or Backlund is moved for assets that also create cap space.

Brodie is the superior D to Z defensively, and will be just as much of an asset at the trade deadline, or a decent Hanifin replacement for next year. I'm actually a bit worried that Z will turn back into a pumpkin without Sutter's system, so I don't value him as highly as some.

Jarnkrok is an alright forward and I believe that he's worth the contract he's on. He could cement the 3rd line in Backlund's absence.

That Canes trade is comedically bad... Matthews is the number 3 center in the league for me. I'm getting that out there before I say any of this. I have McDavid, MacKinnon, Matthews. He is a monster.
