Mock Rebuild 2

Created by: Warpbox
Team: 2025-26 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 30, 2023
Published: Aug. 3, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Pettersson indicates he won't resign (Very unlikely) so Vancouver tears down, finishing dead last in 2023-2024, but fall to third in the draft lottery
Picks (2024):
3rd: Ivan Demidov: Rw/C 5'11 168lbs High production in the MHL, game built around skill to be an elite offensive player and speed to wow opponents, which also allows him to get back on defence.
8th (via CBJ): Sam Dickinson (LD) 6'3 194lbs mobile Dman with a cannon of a slapshot, and the size and smarts to defend with ease.
10th (via WSH): Berkley Catton: C 5'11 163lbs. Dynamic forward that shows a willingness to drive to the net along with high end ability to find open passing lanes for high danger chances
21st (via LAK): Adam Jiricek RD 6'2 168lbs. Shows good IQ in his own end along with quickness to shut down opponents. On offence doesn't shoot like David but has a strong passing game, which also lends into a good transition game.
31st (via DAL): Adam Jecho, RW 6'3 187lbs. Fluid Skater with good playmaking and a powerful shot. Uses his body well down low and to protect pucks.
2024-2025: Canucks have another bad year, this time being rewarded with winning the draft lottery.
Picks (2025)
1st: Michael Misa C 5'11 161lbs. Blinding Speed and ability to play at it makes him dynamic. Compares himself to Mitch Marner, he has the skill of a superstar with the energy of a grinder. Plays hard in both ends, also broke Connor McDavids OHL Cup playoff record with 20 points, one ahead of McDavids 19.
Bostons pick: IDK

2025-2026. Canucks still in tanking mode, looking for Gavin McKenna to truly set themselves up for contention

Sorry didn’t see where it said that anywhere.

Still don’t see BOS trading Sway for a 30yo. This would be better then a Scheifele deal but still can’t see it happening.

No thanks. Giving up a potential top pairing ++ is ridiculous for the Jackets to consider. Even more so when you still have them finishing 25th after picking up Pettersson and they didn't protect the pick. The second Jiricek is in the deal the adds become insignificant if the Jackets were to consider it.

I think you are way overvaluing Miller. A number 1 goalie a 1st and 2nd. I think you need to reassess that. Swayman is Boston’s future goalie.

The thought process was the first is more for retention because it's a ton of retention. Then I felt like Swayman and a second was fair but I was kinda iffy on it. I'm curious on how much of Swaymans success was because of Boston last year. In hindsight I'd probably at least remove the second but outside of that I don't feel it's ridiculous. You'd be getting a PPG C that is capable of up to nearly 100

Pettersson is much more likely to sign a 3-4 year extension than outright ask out of Vancouver, so this hypothetical rebuild likely happens on a slightly later timeline if worst comes to worst

100%. They haven't picked in the 1st round since 2021. They're not giving up a 1st for a goaltender that hasn't even played 100 NHL games yet. They learned their lesson from Petersen.

Segs is still a solid player. Excited to see what he can do with a skater/play driver like Duchene. And he def doesn’t waive for Couver
