Seattle more than likely passes. Tanev is on a better contract for the team as it's near the cap. Trading for Rust means more pieces having to move and not sure Seattle's looking for that.

Exactly, if he struggles...why does anyone want him?

I think if he has a season similar to last year where he does fine (late 40 early 50 point pace) but maybe not completely up to expectations he could be a contender to be moved if the team has other areas we need to upgrade. I think up and coming teams could value that experience. Maybe Penguins retain like 1 mil.

Nino is a Jet for life now, sorry. it would be unlikely they trade him for less than they paid for him plus retention. Would be a solid add for any contender tho!

Rust has that NMC for 2 more years don't forget. Not sure I'd want that trade anyway - or if SEA really would either. The other 2 would be great though. Still can't believe the Jets got Nino for the same pick we got Granlund for lol

The only thing is if we need an upgrade at the deadline I have no clue who we would trade to free up cap space. Love the team as is but still think we'll need one more add for the bottom 6, preferably a gritty player that would help in playoffs. I guess just whoever struggles will be on the block. I think there's a good chance Rust bounces back, but if he has a similar season to last year I worry how the contract will age.

Why Montreal would waste retaining on Monahan for that meaningful return? Monahan if healthy will be a premium asset.

That still doesn't stop the fact he has a full NMC this year

I absolutely agree with what you're saying - I was just pointing out that Rust would be a near impossible person to move. Regardless of how he plays.

I guess my vote would be for Eller? I just really don't think there's a need for Eller AND Acciari on the team. I know it's not a lot of cap space like Rust, but if you can get half retention and the pro-rated salary you should be able to get a decent player for his 2.45mil cap hit I'd think
