Love it when you want to trade for a D and put him on your first pair... then pay 3rd pair value.

Petry to Edm makes sense.
But this package is weird.
Keep Broberg (he's a bust) trade Ceci elsewhere, 0 retention on JP.
Send a 2d rounder instead. Balance Cap elsewhere.

Ceci had far better numbers v Elites last year than Petry did. In far harder deployment.

I think Oilers fans have got to stop pining for the one the got away. It's not healthy.

Ceci > Petry, so Edmonton isn't touching this trade. But it cracks me up that you think Broberg is a bust... I mean, 6'3 / 200 defenseman who skates like the wind and just posted 58.65 xGF% as a 21 year old?! Major bust.

theres no shot you just said Ceci is better than Petry

Ceci is barely replacement level player. Petry is a solid top 4 d. Would be the 2nd best d man after Ekholm on the Oilers

LOL, sure. Petry's a cap dump - recent events prove this.

Ceci has played top-4 on every team he's ever been on, and played top pairing for the past 2 years with decent results. Not just top pairing - he's played among the hardest minutes of any top pairing defenseman in the league. More ignorant hubris from uneducated Habs fans...

Hes a cap dump at 6m aav. He is not a cap dump at 2.6m and every team Ceci has played top 4 as sucked defensively and needed to add dmen to make them somewhat competent. Savard as played for many top4s and hes still dog****

And playing the hardest minutes badly doesnt make him good

He didn't play them badly - that's my point. 51.55 xGF% over 158 games of playing the toughest comp is pretty decent. He's no world beater, but he's certainly worth more than his salary.

The Oilers added Ekholm to push Kulak down to 3rd pairing as he couldn't handle 2nd pairing comp. Nothing to do with Ceci.
