I've seen Leaf AGMs selling him for that so I just copied it, I don't get it from the Leafs perspective but as VAN if you get that chance you take it

What's in it for Mtl? They sell Desmith and take back $760k for only a 4th, which his value alone is probably pretty close to. I'm not 100% loving this, but I'd like to bear from other Habs fans. It's close, but not at the same time. It's a weird move for them to do

I don’t think the Sabres are looking to move Jokiharju
They like him, even if some fans here don’t

A retention spot, no matter the amount whether it be 100K or 10M starts probably with that 4th rounder minimum and grows based on the actual cap and cash. Not to mention Desmith at 1.8M is probably worth a late pick by himself. I think for this to make sense for the Habs, they'd need at least a 3rd. Equivalent of Desmith worth plus a retention spot.

I think the real issue here from a Habs perspective is that I don't think the Habs want to waste a retention spot on such a low return deal. They could probably get more by selling one of their own players with retention like Petry, Monahan at the TDL, heck even maybe Desmith.

Montreal has absolutely no incentive to do this, Montreal just got a second for gaining 800k in cap, while this would be a solid backup and retaining 1 mil for a 4th.

Yes it is but its also the fact Allen went from never injured before MTL to increasingly more injured every year.
This year he barely played 18 holes at his own Charity Event he's held for years in Fredericton to raise money for Youth Hockey .
Usually he's out there for 6-7 rounds of golf at least over the even even in the past few years where he's been banged up.
I suspect he wont be ready and if he pushes it in Camp will hit LTIR again as its his Groin and Lower back (his swing you could see caused him pain )
TBH im not confident he can rebound the quality of his life at his age if he continues to but this kinda stress on his body.

People keep trying to Trade Allen but i believe he wont be an issue cause like Byron he'll spend his last 2 years here mostly on LTIR before retiring

Maybe, maybe not. Time will tell. There's a lot of speculation in your explanation here so I'll wait for some concrete facts before going down that rabbit hole. Either way, not sure what Allen has to do with the above deal with making sense or not? You think the Habs should keep Desmith I guess? If what you say is true about Allen, than by all means yeah keep Desmith then. Agreed. Although could give Primeau a real shot at backup too and then if he doesn't cut it, send him down and if someone picks him up, no love lost. If he clears he plays with Dobes in Laval. Pickup another goalie off waivers. Etc.

Either way my main point of this post was to point out that retaining on a trade this early to essentially get a 4th rounder isn't worth it for MTL. They could get more for their remaining retention spots just by moving out their own players instead of being a 3rd party brokering team.
