Columbus passes. No need or room for that return.

desmith isn't a dump Columbus could use another goalie as their young goaltender was not very good last season and they may want another backup and then the 4th is just another bonus plus Columbus doesn't have room for foudy so he could get a chance over in montreal

If Columbus doesn’t have room for Foudy, they really don’t have room for Armia, who is vey much a cap dump at a position Columbus doesn’t remotely need. Tarasov can’t stay healthy but they won’t risk losing him to waivers, especially in favor of picking up Casey DeSmith of all players.

They do have room for armia as a healthy scratch all he would be in any trade but they don't have room to healthy scratch foudy as he is still a young player and the longer they sit him the more his value goes down plus Columbus has enough open roster spots at the moment where they don't have to risk putting tarasov on waivers they could play the 3 goaltenders as a triple tandem. Columbus isnt anywhere near making the playoffs as of now and taking on a bit of extra cap for 2 years which allows your young goalie to have more mentorship and less pressure as well as taking on extra assets should be considered a win

So in your mind the Jackets have enough roster space to both scratch Armia *and* carry 3 goalies? You really aren't familiar with the Jackets current roster situation.

What I mean by this is the jackets have too many good fowards to consistently play foudy and give him opportunities he is not even projected on the opening night roster but the jackets still have roster spots available which would allow them to take on the extra goaltender and carry Armia as a healthy scratch. On top of this they may be able to flip desmith at the deadline as having a 3rd goalie for a deep playoff run can be very valuable look at vegas this year. This move would allow the blue jackets to gain assets while only really taking on 2 million dollars extra on to their cap which still leaves room for them to resign their young guys next offseason

To entertain your point, I'm sorry that I don't understand the thought process that Columbus should trade a younger, more valuable, cheaper player for an older, more expensive player to healthy scratch when there aren't actually roster spots for either of them. If they must move Foudy, they'll do so for an actual return that benefits them, not... this.

What is this so called value you speak of hes a 23 yo who just got 14 points in 62 games and isnt going to crack your lineup his value is very low as of now and it will not grow if you dont play him I think a flippable goalie a 4th and a cap dumb is extremely fair for foudy as of now and as for the no space argument you do have space for both players Columbus has 2 roster spots available meaning if they did this trade they would still have one left over

Wings coming into camp: Gaudreau, Laine, Johnson, Marchenko, Texier, Chinakhov, Danforth, Robinson, Olivier, Voronkov, Foudy, Bemstrom
Centers coming into camp: Jenner, Fantilli, Sillinger, Roslovic, Kuraly, McKown (with considerable overlap here with the wings as well as Danforth, Voronkov, and Texier can play passable center and Roslovic and Jenner are probably better served as wings)

Tell me again where Armia fits. If Foudy gets squeezed out--which he probably will--oh well. But sending him out to get negative value assets is worse than losing him to waivers. Yes, sucks to lose a young player who got screwed over in his development by Covid, but Columbus does not have a roster spot or two to waste on Joel Armia when they've got plenty of bodies already under contract who cost less.

Buddy I dont think you're understanding the concept of this trade Armia is not supposed to make your roster there is no space for him on your lineup but as I mentioned previously Columbus is a bad team that still has the cap space and open roster spots to make a deal like this. Casey desmith is a goalie on a cheap deal that can be the backup if things arent working with tarasov and then desmith could also be flipped at the deadline for more assets you also receive a fourth from the this trade which is an added bonus.

Foudy and armia both had the same amount of points last season and armia is a much more experienced player so if you have an injury he will be much easier to slot into the lineup not to mention foudy will need a new contract next offseason while armia only has a 2 years left on his deal which is certainly not Columbus's competitive window. So you get a cheap goaltender with one year left on his deal a fourth and 2 years of Armia for Foudy who will need a new contract at the end of year and is not going to play.

Again, your logic here is non-existent. Every roster spot is filled on the Jackets and has several backup options with or without Foudy on the team. There certainly isn't a spot for Armia and there is zero chance ownership would allow money to be spent on burying him in Cleveland. The only thing the Jackets need right now is a 3rd string goalie on a $1.1M or less contract that can be called up from Cleveland in the case of an injury to Elvis or Tarasov.

The Jackets have *never* taken on a cap dump under Jarmo and he's absolutely not going to change that now when his seat is heating up. Not only that, but it would run completely counter to what he has done with the team this summer. Nonsense.

If DeSmith has value as a TDL asset, the Habs should be all over keeping him for that purpose. If not then there are teams in a far better position to hang onto him for the purpose of dumping him later on than the Jackets. He wants to play and he simply would not get the opportunity he's after in Columbus.
