You don't really go out and sign a UFA to turn around and trade him away before he plays 1 game with you.

Hawks aren't resigning Kaner for one year, let alone 6. And doubt they'd want to take on Schenn for five more years, even at the reduced cap hit.

Why would the blues do this? Schenn did ok for us last year with 65 points. He should be ok for another 2-3 years and by that time the cap will have risen and he can slide down to the 3C spot
