That is brutal for CBJ. In effect two first rounders for one year of Lindholm.

Why would Calgary add that much to take on Parayko ?

Hanifin is worth more even with an expiring deal as he is younger, produces more and is better defensively.

The trade would be assuming more than 1 year of Lidholm, but that would be up to Jarmo

Ok fair enough, in my mind I felt like their age, value, and production was almost a wash. I hate getting accused of being so lopsided for my team. If it’s a second to get the 1 mil retention. Yes please.
My reasoning for the trade idea is:
Weegar - Anderson
Zad - Parayko
Kyl - Tanev

The only the blues would want to trade for Hanafin would be to pair him with Parayko. Trading Parayko defeats the whole purpose of getting Hanafin.

We’ll that’s a fair point, less than helpful for my question though, lol

Trading Parayko for Hanifin makes no sense.

Also, the question becomes what does the value look like when you factor in Hanifin at 7.5-8m for 8 years? I get it’s easy to assume Parayko isn’t very good without looking into usage, but I would be happy if they signed the rest of his contract on a left handed clone of himself today.

Blues need to add a LD like Hanifin to play with Parayko if they’re insistent on sheltering every other defenseman within the system.

I think that gives the Flames too many RD(Weegar, Andersson, Tanev, Parayko). Unless the plan is to trade Tanev at the TD, it doesn't make much sense.

You may be correct, but Weegar typically has played on the left. In Florida he played on the left side of Ekblad, and think him and Andy could form a very formidable top pairing.
Tanev needs to be bumped down to the third pairing so that his body doesn’t have to deal with the rigours of 20 + min a night. That’s why I had Parayko slotted beside big Z. It also gives Zad a little more flexibility to rush the puck. Just my thoughts.

IMO Tanev is still a top 4D. He doesn't need reduced ice time. I believe the reason he missed so many games was that his shoulder wasn't back to 100% after the surgery in the last off season. I think another off season would do wonders for his recovery. He had a couple of full seasons before the injury in the playoffs against Dallas.

Your question has no bearing on reality, as the Blues are not trading Parayko. And they are certainly not retaining 8x1M on him for peanuts just to get a UFA. As noted above, this trade concept makes zero sense for the Blues.

Guess you don't understand the definition of UFA., if you think it would be up to Jarmo. Interesting that the Flames signed Markstrom, Colemen, Tanev, Kadri as UFAs but didn't give up any assets to acquire them. But somehow feel entitled that a non playoff team is would be give up two firsts for a a maybe signing of a UFA. CBJ will just wait like just about all teams do for their UFASs.

Any Lindholm to CBJ trade would have to include an extension, there's too many variables this season to place a solid bet on Columbus being a playoff team. Even with Lindholm, I doubt we are, so we'd be acquiring him for next year and beyond.

If there's a reasonable extension in place (probably sub-$8M), something like this might work for CBJ. But I could also very easily see Jarmo waiting until UFA to get Lindhom if he thinks that's an option, or pull something like Severson's trade to get his guy for cheap after the season, without giving up these significant future assets.

In the end, I think Calgary finds a way to re-sign Lindholm, or would be best off just trading him to the highest bidder at the deadline.

With so many teams at the cap, trading at the TDL might be only way deals get done...... I know the Flames like Lindholm but geez he will almsot 30 when his next contract will start. I guess some team will overpay in term for him. Flames missed the playoffs last season, I really don't see all the love for their players or why they should resign them. Hanifan, Lindholm, Backlund, Zadorov...all UFAs
I'm a believer that non playoff team should be trading their UFAs at TDL. There should lots available this TDL.
The Leafs have I believe 8 upcoming UFAs. Now I don't expect the Leafs to be trading any of them for their playoff push, but it makes an interesting off season with Leafs potentially losing, one third of their current team and have about 45m in cap to fill out the roster. We'll just have to wait to see if Matthews and Nylander are part the Leafs for the second half this decade.

Well you won’t get retention I’ll tell you that much

Also the whole point of getting a guy like hanifin would be to play with Parayko. And I don’t think the gap in skill between hanafin and Parakyo is big hanafin is expiring and without a guarantee of contract I doubt the blues will risk it. Also we have Krug and Leddy so Getting hanifin at this stage wouldn’t be smart especially for Parayko
