Trades
1.
CAR
  1. Couture, Logan
Additional Details:
Turns up in the playoffs a crazy amount but retention would be needed due to him being 34 with 4 years still left
SJS
2.
CAR
  1. Hertl, Tomas
Additional Details:
My favourite option personally. Has experience, great leader, wouldn't cost a haul. Contract length is an issue but may be worth it.
SJS
3.
CAR
  1. Thomas, Robert
Additional Details:
Blues fans crucified me for this (maybe even rightfully so) but I'm sticking with it out of pride. Thomas is a perfect player to have but would cost the most and is most likely unmovable.
STL
4.
CAR
  1. Nugent-Hopkins, Ryan
Additional Details:
I don't think he's the answer at all but Canes could have interest. Top 6 player who provides production and could be swapped for a player like Pesce 1 for 1.
EDM
5.
CAR
  1. Scheifele, Mark
Additional Details:
Good production, veteran experience, shouldn't be resigned though. They would probably want to let him go so it would be rental
WPG
6.
CAR
Essentially none of these off-season moves will matter until the Canes grab an offensive game changer. The reason why they have't been able to get over the hump was offensive production, they have failed to get a goal in important moments and need to grab a player who can do that.

Really hoping we have a SJS/CAR trade pause for 5 years after that garbage Burns trade.

Except the Sharks don’t want to move him.

If this year is as bad as last year they may consider it. It was the same thing with EK65. He said he loved it in SJ and wanted to try and make it work but reality sets in when you see that the team isn't close to competing.

Hertl may want to waive if they don't take a step forward this season. I also want to see Hertl win, and he'd make a perfect fit in Carolina. I'd be thrilled with a 1st + Scott Morrow or something. it would fit both teams needs perfectly

The deal that dumped over 5 mil off the books and got a 3rd, a decent goaltending prospect, and depth forward that was flipped for Duclair? With Burns having a remarkably average couple of seasons prior to the trade and being 37 years old?

Any criticism is based purely on hindsight bias. It was decent/necessary trade at the time and could be even better in hindsight depending on the Duclair return

I don't disagree it led to arguably Grier's best move yet regarding Duclair. Florida was desperate to shed cap though. That's Grier getting lucky.

My scope is based on the trade itself. We just paid Burns almost 3m to score 60+ points on another team. All we got back was a goalie who won't being a starter, a 3rd round selection who again probably won't be a starter, and a 4th liner who did nothing.

Your scope is NOT based on the trade itself if you're taking into account the season he had after the trade and disregard how he was playing before the trade. Also Lorentz was fantastic, what are you tlaking about. And Makiniemi looked pretty good at the NHL level and was good in the AHL considering how bad the Cuda d was last year.

The problem with your argument is Burns was playing well with the Sharks, particularly in the season before we traded him. He had no injury history and played huge minutes every night.

Upgrading from Ferraro (who had a disaster season without Burns) to Slavin also made a big difference.

Lorentz was not fantastic. His underlying numbers were fairly pedestrian, so no need to exaggerate.

He played decent the year before but the two years before that he was just not good. And again he was 37, you can't expect guys to continue to get better after 35.

Also Ferraro had zero d-partner stability this season, he had a new partner every night. A little hard to compare him to the best defensive d-man in the league.

As for Lorentz, he was fantastic in his role. He had good numbers for a fourth liner who could jump in the top 6 and hold his own when trades/injuries happened

Fair point me pointing out the following season. My bad there.
C'mon, you really think Makiniemi is a starter?

No, but I think he has potential to be a decent starter/tandem goaltender

This year is fully expected to be as bad if not worse than last year, 24/25 is where sharks start to improve, 1st plus Morrow would be ok if we get Celebrini 1st OA in 24 draft. Otherwise it hurts the sharks future quite a bit. Sharks need a good 1-4 down the middle and Hertl Smith Bordeleau Bystedt is a solid 1-4 remove Hertl without anything to replace him and it hurts us.

Can I interest you in a slightly used Kadri?

No, that contract is gonna be brutal later since he is signed until he is 38, canes won't do that.

As an oilers fan... nah it wouldn't be much more. Pesce and a 2nd gets it done, Nuge had one of the most inflated seasons last year while Pesce is one of the more overlooked players in the league. I love move for both sides, Pesce would do much more for Edmonton in important moments than Nuge and vice versa for the Canes.

Pesce just isn't that good. His defensive Rels are no better than Ceci's. One of the biggest factors is contract and you clearly haven't considered that at all. Or Nugent-Hopkins NMC.

I guess you didn't get I was joking. I know Kadri isn't going anywhere, and yes that contract will be brutal in 4 years. LTIRetirement might be the solution.
