No vet is taking discount to go to Carolina - small market team with pretty much zero nhl’ers from the area

I meant recent cups. Perry is kind of in that Eric Staal mindset.

The Zuccarello pact is within market value considering his age. Forbort is getting the exact same AAV as he did in Boston. None of these contracts that I placed are true discounts.

Matt Roy is going to cost you far more than 2 x $5,500,000 that's not even close.

So I guess guys like Stastny and Stepan never happened. Or Staal, Freddie, and Raanta all taking a discount to stay never happened. Players will take a discount for Carolina because they know they have a pretty damn good chance of going far in the playoffs, which is why they don’t choose Toronto. They also choose Carolina as a final landing spot for the families, as it is one of the more ideal places in the nation for raising kids. Not only that they can actually go to a grocery store, and not get completely bombarded by fans.

Really, the small market argument? That may have been the case 10 or so years ago, but the 20 year lease extension at PNC would suggest otherwise.

Small market is sometimes what players want. Look at ROR. He left Toronto because there was too much pressure and the market was so big there. So sometimes, players prefer the small market

Canes have gone nowhere in the playoffs; same as the Leafs so 🤫.
Leafs are the biggest market in the league and no region in the world produces more nhlers ; they’ll always draw vet FAs who want to come home & achieve legendary status.
Carolina can draw players (FAs) same as any team with $ but there is nothing “special” about the market

Hurricanes have gone farther than the leafs in the playoffs. Over the last ten years, the canes have won 7 playoff series, and made it to the conference final this past year. Players will see that they are capable of making a really deep run and they may be draw to the Hurricanes over large market teams like Toronto

Canes have played in the weaker division past 5-6 years. They ended up losing to the same team that beat the Leafs or lost to the team that went on to lose to the team that beat the Leafs. So pipe down, Leafs have won nothing (embarrassing but true) but neither have the canes. And you just got swept 🤫

Canes aren't my team. And if they were, at least they have won a cup in the last 50 years

Good to know you jumped into protect canes fans or bash leaf fans; either way, cap friendly is a better place b/c of your selfless service 👏
