You're losing out on a 60pt center and replacing him with Eric Staal. This does not make sense for the Rangers.

Yea I know. But it’ll take a lot to get Nylander and any possible trade hurts them regardless

FYI I’m against trading for Nylander

If Trochek is good for 60pts at 5m and Laf is good for just under 40 at 2m, the difference shouldn't be a first and a second to get Nylander. I don't think the Rags would want to pay him the 9-10m he'd want anyway

Well if Chytil takes the 2C job like fans want, then trocheck definitely won’t hit 60 points again

I added the picks because I know Leaf fans would say trocheck and Laffy aren’t enough. And yea a Nylander extension would put the NYR back in cap hell again

Terrible trade for the Rangers. Trocheck plus Laffy plus a 1st round and 2nd round pick makes them worse immediately and in the near future.

I don’t disagree. Center depth takes a huge hit, but they have a lot of LW waiting in the pipeline. If Laffy fails to produce again this coming year, he’ll definitely be traded

The biggest problem with a Nylander trade is his next contract. That's why the Leafs have to trade him and the Rangers are in no position to pay him anywhere near what he wants, nor should they. Trocheck is a very good 2C or shutdown line center if that's the way the new coaches want to go, assuming Chytil is ready for 2C. In any case, the Rangers finally have depth down the middle, so no way they should give that up IMO. And I don't disagree about Laffy, it's time to give him top 6 minutes and let him sink or swim.

NYR and Leafs are terrible trade partners involving Nylander

Definitely with you. I’m not a fan of trading for Nylander at all especially at the cost it’ll take to acquire him and pay his extension

Nylander won't get anything close to that in a trade.. remember the 1st erik Karlsson trade, and remember Karlsson was the top dman in the league then

Trochek doesn't waive to Leafs. Leafs don't want Trochek's long term contract.

The Rangers making a move like this kinda seems like it's making a change just for the sake of making a change. I don't think the Rangers are at the point where this type of move is necessary

You’re right. But if there’s a change, I think it’s trading Laffy if he has another below average season

A deal like this should have everyone fired and put in jail for doing something so stupid. Center depth is destroyed for another winger who will be overpriced once extended. This fascination with shiny toys is why the Rangers never win. The lack of development for this team is downright ridiculous. They keep making deals like this and we may as well buy everyone out and trade everyone and start the damn rebuild from the bottom. Meaning bye bye Igor, Fox, Miller and everyone else.

I agree that next offseason is when you need to pull the plug while his value is still relatively high. I think Wheeler is going to be a really good mentor for both Lafreniere and Kakko, showing them some of the ins and outs of driving play from the wing. Underrated pickup IMO

Sure, but only for a good elc D, not a 10m Willy winger
