Could strike GOLD

Created by: HShockey
Team: 2023-24 San Jose Sharks
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 30, 2023
Published: Aug. 30, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
1.
CBJ
  1. 2024 2nd round pick (NJD)
  2. 2025 4th round pick (WPG)
Additional Details:
Boqvist has shown flashes of a big breakout, which have been chit short due to injuries. With more opportunity and potential PP time, Boqvist could blossom into an elite puck moving defenceman as once seen as. Texier also has some offensive upside and could benefit from a change of scenery
2.
SJS
  1. Holtz, Alexander
  2. 2025 3rd round pick (NJD)
NJD
  1. Bystedt, Filip
  2. Duclair, Anthony ($1,250,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Holtz and Eklund are best friends and could be an elite duo as Eklund is an elite playmaker and Holtz has a flabbergasting shot and they have good chemistry. He likely doesn’t get T6 minutes in NJ ado they sell high and get a solid winger and prospect

Holtz aint worth that imo. Bystedt is looking like a legit 2c that could be capable of playing a shut down role.

I know, but I feel Holtz could pop with T6 opportunity and a distributed like Eklund, whom he’s best friends with. High risk High reward situation

that 2024 NJD 2nd could become a 1st. Boqvist had pretty bad analytics last year and Sharks already have too many defenseman. The Holtz trade more interesting but I think Bystedt's stock rising too fast while Holtz is fading

I see the vision and I appreciate the concern for the vibes, I just think bystedt is a unique profile in our pool where we have guys similar to holtz but not as high end (guschin, Lund)

The phrase "change of scenery" gets mentioned by a lot of people with Texier. Please explain why you think he would benefit from one.

OK, not exactly a change of scenery, but with so many forwards he wouldn’t get much opportunity and would be fighting for minutes and would be more of a luxury in CBJ

Hot take perhaps but Bystedt > Holtz. That Eklund-Holtz combo would be even greater with Bystedt centering that line.

Ok, that's fair if you see it that way. If he comes back and is in the same form as when he left he's very likely a solid 3rd line option for them though and at minimum he rejoins ERob and Kuraly on a very good 4th line. I don't see him being traded within the next year either way. It would be a very strange choice after the Jackets supported him the last 2 years through his family tragedies.

Fabian Zetterlund, Thomas Bordeleau and a second might be a fair price for Holtz? Zetterlund can replace the likely limited bottom 6 minutes Holts will get, Bordeleau has some great middle 6 upside and could potentially be the 3c for the future for the devils. That’s not enough I reckon hence the 2nd. Maybe a decent but raw defensive prospect gets added in but that feels too much for me

I wouldn’t hate it as a Devils fan. We may need a young 3C candidate. Mercer looks like he will stick as top-six winger. Haula has been good in hybrid center/wing role, but no guarantee what he will be in a couple of years. Our best in-house candidate for that role is likely Samu Salminen.

I doubt NJ moves Holtz anytime soon, especially with two years left on ELC. But if they did, this type of deal would be one to consider.

Holtz is still a very solid prospect. Too many people are looking at lack of playing time as indicator of his progress…and it is misleading. We were not supposed to win so much last year…so we keep him around longer thinking we’d fall back down to earth and get the kids into lineup. But guys like Tatar, Haula, etc continued playing well enough to keep him out of lineup. And Lindy doesn’t change lineup after wins. So it was nothing about what he did. He had one of the best D+2 seasons ever in AHL in 2021-22…and kept similar pace last year.

Holtz isn’t looking so hot right now and Bystedt is looking stronger and stronger and would be an excellent 3C shut down guy with offensive upside and Duclair had 30 goals in 21/22 and was still decent In the limited games he played last year, so neither can be called bums, but if your holding out hope Holtz finds his potential I get that.

yeah im not trying to disparage him as a prospect, I just personally wouldn't trade bystedt for him because bystedt offers something unique to our pool

I wouldn’t mind Holtz but the way I see the sharks going I have a sneaky suspicion Will Smith winds up like Mercer as a RW, given our lack of top line RW prospects. (Hallatuten, Cardwell, Robins, Coe, Weisblatt etc all look more like at best 2RW- 4RW options) without Smith as a future 1C we need Bystedt to be a future middle 6C and some luck to draft Celebrini next draft. And to me would wait another year and if Holtz doesn’t make the Jump to the NHL next season he might be had for less (Bordeleau and a late 2nd maybe)

I love his size and tools but I also see Holtz could be a Pavelski like RW for the sharks as well! So this is tough.
It all comes down to
1, what NJD would accept as a return, and
2, if we see Will Smith as a future 1C or a future 1RW!

If smith becomes a RW then we need Bystedt as a C more than Holtz as a RW.

He wasn't in the Meier deal because Shakir >>>>>> Holtz. Also Bystedt is pretty much on par with Holtz in terms of prospect value now. And have you never watched Duclair? Dude is electric

NJ would be so lucky to get this offer

Never thought we were getting both! Honestly I thought Holtz 24 1st and a 25 2nd no conditions was likely, what we got was better!

Holtz is more of a Ovechkin-style-shoot-from-the-dot type. Pavelski is more of a handsy shot-tipper/deflecter

Will Smith will be 1C imo
