Being the "premiere trade piece" for one of the worst rosters of all time last season means very little lol. Brodie has been a top pairing D on a contender for the full duration of his contract, he's being traded in this scenario because I'm filling his role with the more expensive Seth Jones. This is actually a very common move for rebuilding teams beginning their ascent; pair your young offensive-minded D with a veteran defensive D man to mentor him on the defensive side of the game. Q. Hughes had Schenn, Seider had Chiarot, McAvoy had Chara, Bouchard had Keith, Seattle picks up Larsson, Colorado picks up Manson, Stars grab Suter for Miro etc.

You're telling me one of the worst D cores in the league doesn't have room for a guy who just played on the top pair for the team who finished 5th in the league? How about a little humility...

Also Chicago retains ONE mil because Jones has not lived up to the contract they gave him, better than buying him out down the road because he doesn't fit their window. A unique situation because most teams don't sign a guy at 8 x $9.5 late into his 30s a year before they start a scorched earth rebuild...

No, the only guy who isn't available for trade is the guy with the no trade clause, Trouba.... unfortunately for your D core the salary cap does exist.

No, you need to know your facts. Trouba is signed for 3 more seasons and has an NMC for only 1 more season, then it becomes a M-NTC for the final 2 years and he becomes very tradeable. Schneider's next contract will be an affordable 2-year bridge deal and the cap is going up significantly the next 2 years, so Schneider isn't going anywhere and if any RD is being traded, it is Trouba as soon as Schneider is ready for top 4, which may be 1 or 2 more seasons. No chance you get him from the Rangers, but keep dreaming.

Our right side is already full in case you didn't bother to check, we've already added veteran D to mentor our young, offensively minded D, and you're forgetting the minor detail that his contract is A$$. A team that hasn't started to climb out of the rebuild doesn't want to pay a 5 million player 7.5 million dollars. Have a little awareness.

The Hawks would actually decline due to retaining salary for almost a decade. At some point they'll want to spend to the cap ceiling and that extra $1M could handcuff them.

Hawks DO NOT say yes immediately. They don't say yes at all. Jones may be overpaid, but he is far from a liability. And the Hawks need a veteran D man more than they need a winger who probably costs more than Jones to resign. If Hawks can even resign him. It's been said time and again on this site. The Hawks are not giving up the type of assets Toronto will want to acquire Nylander. Especially with no extension in place. The only way Nylander ends up a Hawk is if Toronto takes a discount price in a trade (not likely) or he makes it to free agency.

You mention the salary cap while taking an ELC and giving back an expensive player when the NYR are tight on cap lol

And if we’re being real, I’d rather Schneider at $2.1m than Jarnkrok

Chicago doesn't need to buyout Seth Jones. They are FAR below the cap now, and cap goes up in future. They are not in a position to overpay a free agent like Nylander next season.

Not really a unique situation. 1 GM constantly mortgages future to try and compete, overpays defenseman. New GM knows the pieces aren't the and blows it up.

Horrible trade with NY.

Schneider is an AHL D, wouldn't trade more than a 3rd for him.

If the Hawks declined this Davidson would get fired.

Jones is easily the worst contract in the league. Your "veteran D" is a $9M AHLer. If anyone is crazy enough to take more than 75% of the contract you kiss them, count your lucky stars and immediately ship him off.

yes, IMMEDIATELY

I was originally basing my post on the idea that Schneider would be getting a huge increase, but already acknowledged my mistake of not knowing Trouba's NTC ends after this year. But yes, of course anyone takes Schneider over Jarnkrok. Way to pretend like that was the trade....

This is why you have zero credibility, thanks for the laughs though.
