I would much rather pay that price for Backlund than for Pesce. At the end of the day the Leafs would want Pesce but could probably spend less to acquire Tanev or Hanifin. I'd call CHI about Seth Jones if we were willing to give that up. My hope was that it would be a swap of roster players because the leafs have been leaking futures for the past few years and can't afford to spend that on another rental.

Would love to see CAR tie up that money in the end of Bread's contract as they need to go into the next summer with Aho's current raise (which is a good contract), and then pay Jarvis and Necas and whatever they do on D.

Leafs are 2+ mil over their LTIR as it is, they can't take on more money without moving money out. To make this work you would have to make the deal Nylander for Pesce 1 for 1 with picks to balance it out. Although that just weakens the Leafs offense which is their bread and butter, so I don't think that there is a deal to be made here.

Let's keep Pesce/Skjei. Best defense in the NHL. I hope the Canes are preparing for a cup run vs being sellers. Selling to DAL/TOR for futures really means those teams want to win more.

Leafs prob aren't doing that... Lilly can fetch a 1st+ and they are already giving up a 1rst... Last time I checked, Pesce as a rental isn't worth 2 1sts +
